I have a troy built models Lithium Ion flight pack. Capacity is 5600 mah. I can clearly see 4 cells. The voltage rating is 7.4. When I select 4 cell on my 0610 DUO charger it shows 14.4 volts. I may be off on the exact voltage it shows but its definitely not 7.4 volts.

The nearest I can get is by selecting 2S, which shows 7.2 volt. I tried it and the charger immediately showed full charge reached. I have been using the pack all day setting up so its not fully charged.

Do I need to select 4S even though the charger is saying 4S 14.4 volt even though the packs label says 7.4 ?

Can you tell us what the battery says on the label and what charger you have please?

If the label says 7.4v, the battery will be 2 cells in series with 2 in-parallel. that is "2S2P". That battery should be charged as a 2-cell battery.

A123 cells (LiFePo4) have a nominal voltage of 3.3v. They are 3.6v when fully charged. So a '2S' A123 pack would be 7.2 volts when fully charged.

If you have a multimeter (DVM) can you check and tell us the terminal voltage of your battery.

Since you are unsure of the battery condition and charger settings, please do not leave it unattended while charging.

It sounds like the pack is actually 2S2P, which means you have 2 X 2300mAh cells in parallel with another 2 X 2300mAh cells giving you the 4600mAh of capacity.

If it is indeed 2S2P you should NOT be charging this as a 4 cell pack, but a 2 cell pack or you will damage the pack and everything around it.. ;-)

Thanks guys. I assumed thats what was going on and you are correct. What threw me off is when I asked the original owner what count it was, he said his triton charger recognized it as a 4 cell pack.
