I don't have a laptop so I'm forced to change setting before flying (or after) and it's kinda annoying getting everything right. Does anyone have some Spartan 760 deceleration and gain settings that works (or will at least get me close) for a T-rex 450 running a 9650 with a moderately powerful setup? I'm not talking about -6 power, but I do have a Medusa. Thanks in advance.

Gain is adjusted on the Tx so you don't have to go home for that. Not sure about a 450 size heli but on 50/90 sized ones you hardly need to play with the acceleration settings unless your tail bounces in a hard stop (which I never actually saw happening on a 50/90 sized bird anyway).

Maybe time to get a bluetooth link and a windows mobile phone?

It would help if you let us know what it's doing that you want to eliminate.

I'm talking about the stop gains and deceleration settings.

For the time being, my Stratus is down so I got the Spartan to play with for the T-rex. Being that I haven't touched the T-rex in some time, a few things happened that normally don't (i.e. one of the tail grips worked its way loose in the third flight). But before this, I had a wag that progressively grew and grew into the heli spinning around about 180 degrees. Not knowing if this oscillation is related to the grip coming loose or not, I just wanted a baseline for 450 sized helis.

Definitely nothing to do with the gyro... especially when you mention the tail grips failed. Never saw ANY gyro letting the tail go 180 degrees if there wasn't a subjacent problem.

So there's no recommended base setting for the deceleration or stop gains? The reason I'm asking is because the default is 100 but the help menu suggests that smaller 450's need a much smaller value but don't give a recommended starting place.

I pretty much assumed that the problems I had today were a result of the tail but would still like some settings to make it easier to fine tune tomorrow. Tuning the gyro requires me to physically take the helicopter to my desktop; I would only like to minimize that burden.

I wish I had a 450 to give you exact figures but I don't. I do however know a friend who has a 500 and is using the default settings without problems.

Thanks a lot anyways. My buddy is coming over tomorrow and if we have any trouble we'll give Bert a call. I'll post back though with what I find works best.

Normally, you don't need to change the stop gains. Typically, it can be handled via the tx gain. Baseline on the Deceleration profile is typically fine, too.
Have you flown it again since getting the tail repaired?

9650 is a slow servo so keep that in mind and don't run the servo horn too short.

i would stump for the decel gain about 40% and put the stop gains to about 115 both sides for that setup.

the above figures should get you in the ball park.

cheers

I've got it setup where the limits are going to be 100/103. I figured this would give the tail a good mix of speed/resolution. Thanks for all the input guys. I'm going to try to get some flights in before work today and I'll post back.

Have you looked at Bert's website? He has files you can download with his settings for all his helis, 450 included.

I'm running a Spartan on my 500, never used a USB cable and the stock settings are pretty darn solid. I can't think of anything I would want to change.

Good find buddy. Unfortunately though he's running a 9257.

Speaking of your 500, did you ever get new servos for it? I wanna fly it again

Just get a 9257 then!

I'm running 9650s on the cyclic and Spartan w/9257 on the tail. The 500 rocks man, come fly it anytime. You still owe me a flight on that Stratus though!

Hey, you're welcome to fly the Stratus whenever. I must warn you though, it tends to crash fairly often. I've got some new extremes coming for it next week as well as a multigov so it should be good to go before too long.

I was thinking about getting the 3500 as soon as my MA 450 gets here though...

On a 450 size heli, you will likely have to set the Spartan's decelleration to the lowest setting.

Just wanted to give an update in case anyone was interested.

I went ahead and installed the Spartan on my Stratus. Used a 9256 and got the endpoints set to 113/115 with 60 points of subtrim (I think) and had a gain of 30%. I lowered the decel. to 70%, the expo to 0 and the rudder sensitivity to 120 and I have to admit, this was the best tail I have ever flown!

I made all the initial changes mentioned above in hopes of having a good starting point for fine tuning but I guess I got it perfect the first time.

I only got two flights but could clearly see that in maneuvers like piro funnels and piro snakes, the 760 excelled where my other gyro would weather vane. Other things like fast hurricanes and tail slides, I never got a hint that the tail was going to blow out.
