I had a hawk 30 back in the day that had a carbon fiber boom and torque tube. I chopped that sucker into little pieces. Looked like a weedeater going crazy. I guess i lost orientation and backed over it cause 1 dumb thumb led to another. Really bad day. After that i went back to the wire drive and metal boom. I never looked back. I dont fly at the level where that kind of stuff matters.

toolman got it,it looks like the shaft on a shaft driven bike beveled gears at the ends, many many of the nitro birds have them and FYI the KINGV1 was tube driven tail

the advantages are less drag so there is more momentum in an auto(so I'm told )and no change in tension due to weather or humidity but the downside is harder to adjust and the boom must be 100% straight(no unbending a boom after a crash)as with everything helis some guys swear by them, some hate them

but I'd be interested to know why none of the high end 450 out right now(not incl rave)dont have torque tube

Buy as much heli as your thumbs can fly, and your wallet can buy.

Anything more or less will just frustrate you.
