I was streeghtlight flying the TRIX a few nights ago and wandered into a dark area. Lost orientation, and down it went. Fortunately, I had been practicing low autos, so I found the TH in time. Not in time to save the head, though. The washout and hub were the only head parts left undamaged. Also broke the skid struts, blades, A/R bracket, and main gear.

I was about to order the full Phantom plastic head, but on a whim I called RC-TEK to see how much the metal underslung version would be. Spoke to Scott, and he hooked me up with this:

and a metal A/R bracket. The head came just like that - fully assembled - shaft, links, and all - for $55. The A/R bracket was $10. Helluva deal.

Installed, with HBK2 CF paddles:

With new bump-resistant LG and HS81 tail servo (much better than the JRS185):

Bummer man

How did the frame do? Did the aluminum stay straight?

It kind of soft-landed. I expected the blades to go, but not that many head parts. The frame was undamaged.

Total carnage:
Flybar cage
One blade destroyed; the other only grass-stained
One mixer arm
Skid struts
Blade grips
Spindle
Flybar pretzeled
Main shaft
The big bearing in the swashplate locked up
Canopy got dirty

Everything else looked untouched. apparently the SA plastic parts are super-flimsy. They felt kind of flexy to begin with. The plastic King head would have just shook it off and asked for a new spindle.

Sounds like the plastic Mini head part ... well at least the mixer arms, cage and washout arms. The rest of it is pretty solid. The new head look good and that is a great price! Is it 100% compatible with the Align head?

I think it is 100% compatible - everything's the same size and length. the plastic Phantom head is advertised and reported to be 100% compatible. All I did was pull out the old head, shaft and all, and put this in. Adjusted what needed adjusting, and off it went.

The blade grips are crazy tight until you file or sand down the plastic blade ends, though. But there was still plenty left for safety's sake.

Flight is way smoother and less tendency to pitch up in FF. Must be characteristic of all metal heads.

I still can't believe the price. The full plastic Phantom head is $39, which is a bargain as it is, but this for only $16 more? Maybe I got the last one...

I looked at their site and I found the plastic head but I can not find the CNC one. Maybe you did.

I called RC-TEK to find out when the plastic Phantom heads were going to be back in stock. I actually talked to Scott - Mr. RC-TEK. He said it would be a few more weeks, because they're changing manufacturers, but he said he had the underslung CNC Phantom head for only a few bucks more.

A lot of their stuff is special order only. I had no idea there even WAS a CNC Phantom head, much less a CNC anti-rotation bracket.
