Blades, Night Flying and Painting > Removing Bad paint from my Canopy.

I guess, I found some bad paint, and sprayed my canopy with it. I wish I would of removed it when it was still wet, but it is too late for that now. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to remove it.

Thanks for any advice.

What paint did you use? "Like dissolves like" ... so if it's lacquer based you can use lacquer thinner, etc.

Many paints react at a chemical level in absence of the solvent used in application - resulting in something that the original solvent can't touch. (Which is why many water-based paints are quite weatherproof after drying). Others(like 2-part clear or paints) don't use a solvent - the 2 parts react and harden without a solvent "drying"

So how/if it can be done depends on the kind of paint you used.

I used Auto Air Colors to paint my canopy - and had a miserable failure in my application technique the first time.

Soap, warm water, and a scrub-sponge removed the paint quite nicely. I had to let it soak for 15-20 minutes first, but it did come off very well, leaving only the primer behind.

Sweet. Glad to hear it! It's a great feeling knowing that you haven't ruined all that prep work, isn't it?
