Thanks for the replies.

I have had it in the air since the rebuild, and things are going well. All of the new parts from Air Star have been great! I have a few more things coming as well, including a new Canopy and rotor blades (Rotortech 825mm Yellow Tip).

The belt driven tail is perfect from a comparison of the torque tube design. It is very smooth and no one would know the difference without inspecting it. In regards to what is better, there are many threads regarding the subject. For me, it comes down to simplicitiy of parts and overall cost.

I will update more pictures here soon.

Thanks,
Mike

Just a couple of questions,
was that servo new?
did you cut the wires to shorten them?
and resolder?

I am asking becouse Hitec does not ship servos with a short lead like the one shown in your first pic.

by the way the lead looks melted it appears to have been re soldered
by a very hot 30w~40w iron.

if it had been soldered by such a hot iron the joint would have been weak from the start (solder would appear sandblasted and lumpy)

it is obvious that someone modified that servo lead.

Rob,

The lead looks normal size to me? It was brand new out of the box. I had only maybe 20 minutes of bench testing on it while trying to get everything configured. I purchased this from the LHS still brand new in box... Even the servo arm bag was closed.

I will take another picture of the servo and measure the lead. Like I said, it looks normal length to me? What should it be?

Thanks,
Mike

the lead you had showed was what looked to be around 2-3''
they come with somewhere around 6-7''

Rob,

Ahh I see what you are saying now. But that isn't the lead. What you are seeing in the picture is the grommet that goes into the servo case. None of the pictures actually show the lead or the entire wire. It looks like it, but if you look close it is just the grommet.

Oh,
i see i thought that was the connector,

I must agree that is a horrible solder job
hope they at least offer you some new servos...

I attended a fun fly this weekend.

As like most fun fly's, they give away prizes and such. Here is a picture of the prize I won....

Go figure.

John,

Yeah, it is actually pretty funny. A few people who knew about the issue I have had with my helicopter also found it very funny. When my name was called for a prize, I was like "Sweet! I wonder what I am going to get!". When I walked up and Mike handed my that shirt, I was looking for the hidden camera's and stuff. I thought it was a setup!

The fun fly was great. It rained most of the day, but at 3:30 the sun came out and it was 80 degrees. Dried up real nice, and I got a few flights in. I found one issue with the helicopter, and I can't believe I didn't catch this sooner. I had the flybar locked in place within the seesaw!

You know how you can rotate your flybar so the paddle moves around a 360 degree axis (limited by your links)? Mine was fixed at some 20o angle! I had put the head button on after getting everything mechanically setup, and the screw was too long. The screw actually bit into the flybar locking it in place.

I am amazed that nothing really bad happened!

Right now, the helicopter is flying great. The helicommand on the other hand needs some work. I am going to have to talk to a few people to figure out what the deal is there.

Thanks,
Mike
