Back in the day when the Pantera first hit the market.
JB had a cool idea. The snorkel.
I have read many a post poo pooing the snorkel idea.
cool air and protection for your engine.
I am doing a rebuild after 70 hours of flying and thought it would be time to clean the air filter from the snorkel.
I filled a bowl of warm water and a bit of dish soap. smushed the air filter and drained the yuky water into a coffee filter.
This little experiment showed me what did not get into my motor.

I took snorkel out just before crashing...ouch.. Btw. does the hole in the fan shroud for the snorkel hurt cooling if the snorkel is removed?

Yes, because it's upstream of the engine! Seal it up with a piece of tape, or something.

I took a piece of old canopy and 4 small screws, like the ones that hold the windscreen on, to cover mine up. If you go this way you should be able to forget about it ever coming loose. Unless you are having heat issues or need the space I would put it back in.
