The past 24 hours has been very exciting. I bought a Rex450SE and will be selling EVERYTHING else to fund the build. (just kidding guys, do you think I am that stupid?) Anyhow that should be fun and another money pit but hey, this is a hobby and like all hobbies except crocheting, it costs a descent amount of money to do.
Ok now to the real news ... drum roll please ... I flew the Mini on a mountain top today!!! Why is this exciting you might ask? Well first off the elevation was just a tad short of 10,000 feet above sea level. Next and more importantly, it was a wonderful day! There was a little wind but nothing like the last week where the daily average has been near 20mph. Yes daily average! Anyhow I went up to the top with some friends as a Jeep run. We had a picnic on top and then I flew the heli. Ok so I just hovered the heli but that is enough for my first try at that elevation. Next time I hope to let the heli soar like a bird and cruise all over the 500 and 1000 foot cliffs, but that is for another day. So first let me post up my video I made
Ok I now I will talk a little about the experience. First off a mountain is not a heli friendly place. There was no perfectly level ground. I had to take off on a slight hill and then dodge the rocks and weeds. Landing it was another fun thing. I had to make sure I kept the tail out of the rocks and plants, all while trying to keep the heli stable in a 5mph wind. It was really not that hard but it was a little disconcerting. Then there is the lack of air. I reset the th.curve to 0-70-95-97.5-100 for the flight as I knew I would need all I had. The heli did hover but there was not much left in terms of lift. I did a full throttle bump once to see what would happen and it just wandered up about 8 feet, that's it. That was on a fresh battery and at the highest head speed available. Down here at 5000ft, a full throttle move like that would result in 50ft climb Anyhow it was a mostly uneventful event but something I wanted to do
Ok I have a problem. I made the video using my digital camera at 640x480 resolution. I then worked on it and everything looked great. Then I uploaded it to youtube and now it looks like ass. I have seen other videos at higher resolutions, how do I do that. I went ahead and also produced a 720p version and it looks killer but what do I do with it now?
Youtube says that MPEG4 provides the best results. I've been sucking in from the camera to AVI. Then use IMTOO MP4 converter. The free version works up to 5 minutes. Its been working OK, but the last one got a little messed up in the conversion. Sound was out of sync and the titles were shortened.
I just got Adobe Premier Elements. You can upload directly from Premier to Youtube. However the quality is not as good as AVI to IMTOO. There is a quality setting, but its grayed out. I suspect that an MP4 codec is required to enable it.

Well I created a MPEG4 but youtube says it is not in a format it will accept. SO now I am trying to upload it to google video and I will see how that goes. If all else fails, I will host this one myself and just let folks download it from my servers.
I wonder if youtube has a bandwidth limit like lowering the bitrate of your vid no matter what format? Thats the only way I can figure you can upload a great resolution video and it be so easily destroyed.
