I think they are made in other places as well but I know they are made in Taiwan.

I too will be looking at installing a foam block to fit the radio easier . Cant see messing with the tie down strap on the board ( although at least they made it a velvet texture ) everytime I want to use it .
One question is when you go to the 921 reciever do you you lose the the 2048 modulation ? With todays servos it might not be as noticeble as with older/slower servos .
I based my decision on feel as well , the radio just seems to wrap around and cling to your hand , unlike futaba which feels like a clunky box and bottom line is you will own many helis/planks but only one radio , so purchasing the 12X was a wise investment . Radios dont seem to change but every 6 to 8 years unlike the kits and electronics , so concider that when deciding for those on the fence .

From another post. This gives you an idea. All 9 channel and above are 2048 and all 7 channel and below are 1024 res.
Note the comment about mixing RX's on the same model memory....they don't work unless you rebind them. I fell into this trap on day one as I am not entirely 2.4 conversant yet. Thought my 1221 was broken from the get go! I tried to use it on a model memory that had been bound to a 6200. I tried to rebind it and thought that any battery hole would do for binding with the bind plug but thats not how it works. After putting my glasses on I looked at the RX and it has one hole that is bind/data. After plugging the bind plug in there it was up and running. Duh...

Something to keep in mind with the x9303 and 12x is that if you have a specific model memory bound to a AR6100/AR6300/AR7000(1024 res) and then bind an AR9000/R921 R1221(2048 res)to the same memory the original receiver will indicate its receiving a signal but it won't work correctly.

This isn't something thats likely to happen but I experienced it once as I was using a model memory setup for an AR6300 and wanted to quickly test my R1221 receiver so I quickly bound it to the model memory that was already loaded. Later I went to fly the heli with the AR6300 and it didn't work. The AR6300 showed it was receiving(orange LED was on)
but didn't seems to give much output, it did drive a servo hard over though. Rebinding fixed the issue of course.

So in summary, don't mix 1024/2048 receivers and always use a new model memory to test a receiver.

I think the 7100 recievers are 2048 resolution,when used with a 9303 and 12x.
