I'm hoping to get out. I just started mounting my new canopy, I've got the rear mounts done, just need to extend the fronts. It's going to be mostly an airplane day, I haven't flown my 100cc Edge all year, and I'm planning on bringing it out along with the Spectra.

why doesnt anyone want to see a video of my spectra fly? Probably because mines never even been upside down yet even after 2 1/2 years. I was out tonight and on my way home was thinking I should have tried my first loop with it. Maybe the next time.

It would be cool to see your plane too. In not sure if I'll make it out though, I just have to see what happens tomarrow with the wife being pregnat you never know?

Messed with it this morning, I figured I may as well put the effort in to get the new canopy on. As it turns out, the front posts I put on for the Synergy canopy work perfectly, and I only had to put new posts on the rear. I love how it looks, the R90 3d canopy has always been one of my favorites, and the front view is wider and easier to see nose in than the stock canopy. I think it's pretty funny, I've had 3 canopies on this heli now, The stock one, Synergy, and now R90 3d. Out of those 3, the R90 3d fits the best, the Synergy is next (the indent for the pipe on the canopy interferes with the throttle a bit), and the stock one is the worst requiring the most trimming to fit. Kinda ironic. I'll get a pic of it with the new canopy when I get to the field. It'll be a much better backdrop than my shop.

I also changed my paddles from the CY stubz my friend gave me to a set of CF Rotortechs I've had for a while and like. I'll tell you, CY makes awesome products, but I just don't like how his paddles fly. They are really pitchy. They're awesome for flying like you are in the middle of a seizure, but other than that, I really don't like them, I've tried the on this heli and a Vibe 50, and they both felt the same. It's a shame because they look great, and there are so many paddles that combine good tracking without pitchyness with fast response.

Only got a quick 2 minute or so flight on it. Turns out the clunk line had come off inside the tank and starving the engine whenever the nose was up (It also felt rich at times, hence why I said it in the video). But, I got a video of it. Nothing too exciting, but it shows how easy it starts, some tic tocs (bigger than I normally do with it, the engine wasn't running right), a tailslide, and some other stuff. I love my new canopy.

I made sure to put in the beginning that it was mild aerobatics, the last thing I want is for someone to post that video as an example of a gasser doing 3d. That'd embarrass the hell out of me.

Nice and I really like the Raptor canopy. No offence but your camera man sucks, kinda like mine, my son. I had him film me yesterday and his 12 yr old mind wandered from here to there. Funny to think he'd be interested in watching dad fly his toy....well he was for about 30 seconds or so.

Wait until you get your modified G231 in there and I'm sure the slow downs will be less pronounced as you flip around!

As far the clunk line, zip tie it from the inside to the pickup tube. I zip tie mine otherwise gas lines that aren't zip tied on can come off. Make sure you ziptie the feed line from the outside at the tank end as well. It came off in Maine several years ago on my 1005 gasser and I made a miraculous auto in a ditch with the last 2 seconds being out of my sight. Been zip tied since then!!

Thanks for the video. It looks good with the R90 3D canopy on it. Everyone has their own opinion but I have and always will be a fan of rappy canopies. To bad the vid had to be cut short due to clunk line issues but better a short vid than a rebuild. Due to personal issues I will not discuss on this open forum my Spectra-G project has to be put on hold for at least 6 months maybe longer its possible that it may have to wait till the 2010 flying season.

Thanks again Eury please keep vids coming of your gasser this goes for everybody put up vids of your gassers too. So this way those of us who have issues beyond our control can still enjoy gassers too.

Thanks guys, I have a 16oz Nalgene tank that I bought a couple weeks ago to put on it. It fits fine with the R90 3d canopy. I'll solve the issue when I put that in tonight.

It's a shame you're going to have to put your Spectra on hold, 11B, it'll be worth the wait though, I don't even touch my other helis now that I have this.

Something tells me you are right about not flying the other helis. I think I will end up with several gassers. When I do get things in order I will do my best to document my build. I need to get with technology and learn to post vids that way I could post vids and the more knowledgeable on here can fill me in on what and if I am doing anything wrong.

You are right it is a shame that it has to be put on hold but I will take care of these issues and it will be all the more meaningful to me when I do get it in the air. Enjoy your Spectra

The canopy is simple to fit on. I had to trim the bottom a bit so it would clear the switch, and trim for the generator (wouldn't be necessary if you weren't running a generator). Other than that, I used 2 45mm standoffs for the rear mounts in the existing canopy holes and drilled holes for the standoffs in the frames, the front mounts are some 40mm standoffs in the existing holes in the front of the frames that MA instructs you to use if you are going to front mount the engine. The front holes in the canopy have to be made, the existing dimples in the canopy for the front holes are too far forward.

The 16oz tank I'm changing to is a Miniature tank, I forget what they normally go with, I think it's the Fury, but that tank won't work with the stock canopy. Most people use a Dubro, those are available from any model shop, along with the appropriate stopper. Muffler, I'd think MA would have them, I'd do a search if I were you.

Here's a couple pics. This one you can see where the front hole had to be made in the canopy.



And here's a bad photo of the cut needed on the bottom of the canopy. I need to clean this one up with the dremel and a sanding wheel. The cut is centered, it just looks off from the angle of the photo.



Here's the mounts, I still have the stock mounts on. I can swap to the Synergy canopy by removing the 2 R90 mounts in the back (They are the black ones with the thumbscrews in them). The front mounts are the forward studs that just push through the canopy. Those came from a Predator gasser.



And now some comedy, this is how I got the Spectra to the field yesterday in my new toy.

and i did the same with my cabriolet but the roof is close,too much stuff in the trunk,hope the G will fit inside like my jR AS90 ?!

can't wait to receive my engine i wanna fly my gasser

Either it is/was windy as hell or your parked on a hill? Those trees behind the car pictures look as though they are really getting blown around. Thank gawd the gassers do so dam well in the wind. Even my 10lb 90 electric handles the wind like it's a flying brick, the Predator that much better.

I've been flying the E-Rapter 4 to 6 times a day for the last couple weeks and even though I love it I think I may sell it. I get 8 min flights on 20 a123's (I have 6 packs made up!) and find I like the gasser more. 15 mins at a time is just awsome. Sometimes 6 to 7 mins is the max if I get too crazy with the collective but 15 mins is the norm on the Predator whether I want it or not. I figure I could sell the e710 and batteries and prolly end up with enough to get a Spectra G to see just what all the rave is about. To be continued!!!

I have a BMW Z3 and I've carried a Vario Acrobatic in there no problem, all I did was put the nose in the foot well and let the boom rest on the seat, I could even get the top up if it rained.
