e-Electric Motors & Controllers > Castle 45HV Dead?

I have a Castle 45HV on my 8S T-Rex 500 with Scorpion 1210 motor, SportBEC at 6V, AR6100. I have almost 400 problem-free flights.

Yesterday, I had the motor cut out while in a low hover. I checked it out, everything looked fine, so I tried again. It died again a few seconds after spool-up. On subsequent spool-ups, it cut out sooner and sooner, until now I can't get the motor to turn at all. Battery is fine, I've tried different packs. Receiver and servos work fine.

Does this sound like the ESC died? I can't think of anything else it could be. How long should I expect a Castle 45HV to last?

Yeah sounds like something wrong with the esc. Check your solder joints.

It might also be the motor. Give the motor the "sniff test" - if it smells cooked that might be your problem too.

ESCs should last forever (or as good as). With the exception of one CC that died while trying to flash new firmware, I've never had one die that wasn't the result of me doing something stupid.

Also check the windings on your motor. Unplug it, and touch two of the leads together. It should be noticeably harder to turn.

Tried again last night, and I got it to spin up for a couple brief hovers. It cut out each time after "stuttering." I really don't think it's the motor.

Talked to tech support at Castle, he said I should definetely send it in.

This is why I need more than one heli!
