Scale Model RC Helicopters > Aileron/Elevator GY401 Cyclic Setup

Just bought a Helitronix mixer and 2 GY401s for the cyclics and I'm wondering how to go about setting uo the gyros. From my understanding it will not be in HH mode so I'm just wondering if the delay pot will stay at "0" or what. This is going on a Raptor 50 so there wont be any CCPM setup

The mode has nothing to do with delay its the servo speed. Not knowing anything about that mixer I'd start with 0

What servos are you using?

Leave the delay at 0, and leave the total throw at 100% alone. If you have two spare switch channels, then you can adjust the gain to each 401 independently.

If I only have one spare channel would it be okay to put the 2 gyros gain wires on a "Y" servo extension and adjust the gain that way or should they be done independently?

You can use a Y channel to put the gains together, but i have found that you can not get the best gain out of both gyros for both functions. For instance, currently i have the elevator gyro set at 25% and the aileron at 8%. This gives me the best feel for the head. If they were Y together, you cannot do this, since the gain will be the same for both gyros and will not get the best out of the gyros.
If this is the case, you may want to get a single rate piezo for the aileron, with the adjustment on the case such as a CSM 180, and leave the 401 on the elevator. That way you can get the feel you want.

One question I have to ask after looking is since the 401 is a HH gyro, can you use it if you don't have any extra/spare channels? I thought I had one for the gain but turns out I don't.

Figures. I guess I'll be purchasing some CSM 180's or GY240s soon. Anyone know where to get CSM 180 from? I checked Rick's and Heliproz and neither one has any. I want to see how much they are as compared to the GY240s.

The GY240 doesn't work very well as a cyclic gyro. Stick with the GY401 or the CSM180 for best results. A few people have used the GY240 with good results, but not everyone, so I don't recommend it.

Just an FYI in case anyone was looking for them Joel helped me out and shared Advantage Hobby sells them:

The cased gyro:

and then uncased gyro:

Both work equally well.

Thanks Joel
