Scale Model RC Helicopters > Rivet problem

I'm just starting to try and do some riveting and having a few problems. I'm using the Starwood scale rivet kit and have tried all three tips. Some of the rivets look great while others seemed to have "wrinkled" after they've dried. It seems to happen more using the big tip but it does happen using all three. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but think maybe I'm using too much glue per rivet...????? Thanks for any help or tips!!! Mark

Rivets

Yeah - stick with it buddy....lots and lots of practice is the secret.
Just finished rivetting a Sea King, so I know what I am saying!
Jack is right - getting rid of all the air for a start is the way to go. And take your time.....a light touch produces the best results.

Air Out

Fill the body of the syringe and then set it so the needle is up and just wait for it... a bubble will appear and you will be able to push it out with the plunger.....
Also, just practice on some scrap material... like old credit cards or something of that nature... and as you get going you will get the "rhythm" as mentioned earlier and if you do get one that is bad, just wipe it off with a damp cloth and do it one more time!!!!!
You will get that "feel" for it as you get going with it..

Good Luck, Stan

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

you can also buy sheets of stick on rivets, all already spaced from graupner, I think its about £10 for 4000. I found them good on my bolkow.

Hirobo also sells stick on rivets at around $25.00 a sheet and it brings a lot of rivets in two sizes.
I've seen a couple of helis at the WRAM show which were done with them and they looked real good.

Not this one

Mark, Thanks! No I will have my third place winner from last year there again with some more Scale details. It’s the bell 47G from my gallery. You should come out and compete it’s a wonderful experience plus the chance to pick up ideas from some of the best scale Guys out there. Last year I had the Honor of spending the Day with the Great Len Mount. I have admired his work for over 15 years. He had lunch with me and my children (pricless). My third place finish made my first trip to the NATS unforgettable. Its not how good your are but that your willing to get out and do it. I never expected to even place there.
Best regards,
Michael Rose

I was there

Hey Mike, I was there last year. I was planning on competing but didn't get my vertol done but still went out with a friend of mine to watch and it was a great time. Len's a great guy along with everybody else that was there. And all the machines were great too. Your Bell looked great and your flying was very impressive too. Stan also put on a heck of a flight with his flybarless Jet Ranger....I thought he was going to loop it on the last day...lol I'm going again this year and I hope to have the vertol done...or at least to a point where I can compete with it. I'll be starting to paint it this weekend and may not have it complete but I'll be there either way. Mark

Ready To Loop It!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry that I will not be there to show you that loop this year.... found out this week that I am going to have surgery on my neck early next month and that is going to keep me from making it this year...
But I know that you guys will make sure to make up for me "SLACKING" off while you are out there having all that fun... (Emile said he would take care of mine for me, but you now he will need some help!!!)
