Well... cheer up. If it were a 600N, at this time you would be looking at the classifieds for a new engine

... dont agree with you on that one tony. Besides, had it been a 600N this particular crash would never have happened, its impossible to put the tail shaft plates on backwards

Hey, lets play nice.

I have a 600N.

Well, all of the parts are on order. I should have my Vibe 50 up and running in a couple of weeks. This is going to be a total rebuild, If nothing else, I'm improving my building skills.

I'd rather be flying

FYI, I pulled my tail case off to change the tail shaft and discovered that the set screw hole in mine was elongated aswell.

My tailcase was VERY secure and tight.

I would urge every one to check their tail boom. I have a new one comming, and I am going to rough up the boom and secure the case with a little zap on the new one.

Are you sure about that? I checked my 600N tail and it seems to me you can flip the plate and install it backwards. Too lazy to try though

Dave Yost: Use the mark Luke Like I said before, I mark my booms with a scalpel on the tail case border (one line across tail case and boom, another paralell to the tail case border) and also on the other end where the plastic clamp holds the boom the the frames.

If there is even a 0.5mm movement, it will show up imediately.

Tipp-ex also works very well for seeing if something has moved.

Yes but it washes away when you clean the bird at the end of the day

I'm with Bh, congrats on taking the blame on yourself, you most probably
will save a lot of heli's as it is an easy mistake, the manual should add a note of warning

Common sense may not be common after all

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. It always pisses me off when I see a guy dorking in a $6000 bird (a super scale Spitfire comes to mind) and then looks with all incredulity at his 14mz... yep, its definitely that cheap crappy radio fault lol.

Just rebuild the sucker and go fly

Good Idea, but goal is to prevent the movement, not track it. Not to mention that scribing aluminum can create a stress riser.

I think the goal is to stop the tail case from moving, it would appear to me that the treads on the set screw are chafing the hole due to the fact that the screw is a harder material then the boom.

I did lose tail blades in flight, so the viberation might have caused the elongation. However I must say I was very surprised at the size of the hole, especially considering that the case had not moved or at least was very tight when I went to remove it.

One of those things that makes you go Hummmmmmmmm.......
