| I've been rebuilding my gasser since my crash last month, and just about everything on it has been replaced, including the bearings. However, I've had a hell of a time getting the bearing on the clutch bell that goes into the bearing block replaced. So, I thought I'd share the tricks I learned.
First, that bearing isn't a common size, however, it is common in the Bike world, apparently, a lot of bikes use it as an axle bearing, so after searching (forgot to get one when I ordered the rest of my parts and didn't want to order from Heli-world just for that), I found ot at a local bike shop.
Second, getting the damn thing on the clutch and in the block. because of the way it assembles, you've got to press it into the block first (which is easy, just use a socket the same size as the outer diameter), then onto the clutch bell. None of my sockets would work to get it onto the bell, as the hole you have to go through to access the bearing is small. A trip to Home Depot netted me the solution, a 1/2" cap for copper pipe is just about the right size for the inner diameter of the bearing, it's a little loose, so I squeezed it in a hair, but it worked perfectly to get the bearing fully seated.
Hopefully someone will be doing this job and come across this post and save some head scratching.
