Thanks for the info. I dont think I had a voltage problem on a fresh battery.

assuming your using the bec on esc or seperate one if the bec craps out for a brief moment bingo.........low voltage. so the battery maybe has nothing to do with this. i would happily discount it infact and rule the bec in as a possibility. altough a slight one.

have you connected the gyro to the pc? it will give you an error message depending on the firmware version it is running if there was a gyro error.

swinging back and forth could have been a few things like static, gain over sensitive at time, belt slipped.

few ideas perhaps you can try out.

cheers

To SID

This gyro will go into programming mode if the voltage output from the receiver drop down momentarily. I really don't know what can cause this voltage drop, maybe static or some strange situations AND is not caused by fresh battery or not. Anyway the capacitor that I recommend you to try will eliminate this momentarily voltage drop. Problem solved for me, period.

dennis, what type of BEC are you using?

Is it a switching BEC?

If so switching BEC's(aka switching regulators) have a characteristic called "voltage undershoot"(as well as voltage overshoot).

This undershoot(overshoot) occurs when the electrical load(in Amps) becomes higher(lower) and can be measured on the bench with a scope.

I measured this characteristic on an Align RCE-BL60G and was startled to see that the undershoot changing from a .5A load to a 3A load was...get this....about 3V for a period of 1/4 microsecond.

This effect was repeatable.

Other BECs that I have tested can range from 300mV to 1V depending on the manufacturer.

FWIW...

Thanks guys for the info, very much appreciated. Im using the scorpion 60amp heli version ESC with its internal 5/15 volt BEC. I will try out the svp from readyheli. Thanks again

Hi Hovercraft,

I am using Hercules BEC. This BEC supposed to be very good. I started to see the problem with Spartan gyro re-programmed was when I first start to learn piro-flip with very poor collective management. Now, I don't even see the problem anymore as my skill is better and I also install a capacitor on the receiver.

I agree that some BEC will have poor ripple on the DC output voltage. I did not have time to investigate the ripple under loading on the bench (even though I am engineer myself). The quick fix seems to be adding the cap and update the firmware.
