Welcome to RR, it's a great resource and pretty good folks for the most part

Do you have a manual for the heli? The first thing I would recommend doing with a used heli is to partially, if not completely disassemble it and put it back together properly according to the manual. There's a lot of things you should check on a used heli, but if you're new to everything it may seem a bit overwhelming to tear it down and check everything out. There are PDF versions of the manuals all over the web so if you didn't get one, you should be able to find it online.

It would probably be very beneficial to find a local club and hook up with the folks there. They may be willing to help you go over the heli and will have a better idea of what to look for in the way of problems and maybe save you a lot of trouble.

What was included with the helicopter,do you know the brands/models/specs of any of the equipment in it like the radio, or engine, blades, etc?

I'd say to seek out your local flying club and hook up this some guys that already know about RC helis. Going it alone can be frustrating and costly.......

Chopy,

Welcome to RunRyder, the BEST heli forum there is thanx to Mark Ryder !

Here is a site that is often suggested as "must reading" when it comes to Raptors......

http://www.raptortechnique.com

I would highly recommend that you visit and read as much as you can in the areas that pertain to your heli.....

As suggested, the second best course of action is to DEFINITELY seek others in your area that fly helis. There's nothing like having an experienced pilot double check your work and help you with SAFELY setting up and test flying your model.....

Keep in mind that these are not "toys".......Well, yes they are but improperly handled and set up, they become an extremely dangerous toy. Make sure to read the "Safety" forum here on RR and you'll soon discover what I'm talking about.

In the mean time, learn everything you can and most of all, enjoy your hobby !!

ok i didnt think i would get so many questions and answers.
basicly it came with all i need from what the manual says, i have a spektrum dx7 radio , 12v battery a starter motor and a glow driver a few tools and some spare bits and bobs and a couple of spare blades they look like wood wrapped in white plastic.
the chap i got it from demostrated it flying when i picked it up ive had a look and all the conections seem to be snug theres nothing loose but i will look at taken it apart next week as it looks a bit dirty

also join a club and join the BMFA

The BMFA is an insurnce group realy that covers you if you do hit some one with the heli etc this is a MUST have.

also go on the bmfa site www.bmfa.org and you will see under the club tab a list of all of the clubs in your local area

by joining a club u will b able to have more experenced pilots to look over the heli like and help u out more

+1...find other experienced pilots to hang out with and learn from...learn good safety habits...what do you do if your throttle link pops when it's spooling up????.....sh!t can go sideways with helis REAL quick..get schooled up by some experienced pilots and have fun!!

.....97% Adrenaline...3% Skill.....
