Well guys I finished the build and have been doing all the hovering positions and I'm ready for some forward flight. Engines been broke in and adjusted down from running so rich. My question is, how long can I fly on a full tank? When I was hovering I could always see the fuel level in the tank. Do you guys include the fuel in the header tank for flight time? Please fill me in as to how you guys figure it.
Thanks

I set the Tx timer for 10 mins. With more aggresive flying it could last for a shorter time. More autos = more flying time. So it all depends on your own style. Just keep bringing it back in towards yourself, and you can see the fuel level, or a slow fly-by achieves the same.

I would suggest not using the fuel in the header tank as a 'normal' thing. keep that for emergencies!!

I typically fly in idle 1 for mild 3D head speed around 1800 and get a little over 8 min before reaching the header tank. One you reach the header tank your engine will begin to run rich. While still flyable its best to land before you get to the header tank.

Who raised the ground since I took off?

7-8 minutes, however, I do disagree with this comment:

"One you reach the header tank your engine will begin to run rich."

It will run slightly leaner, not richer, when the main tank is depleted and you are running on the header.

There are other factors here - I can get over 12 minutes on a flight before hitting the header tank because I run 15% nitro fuel. Just watch your fuel level and time it.

Also, if everything is working as it should you should go rich when on just the header tank since the fuel does not have as much tubing to go through. But this is very subtle in my experience. Once I get to the header tank I'll start doing some hovering exercises such as slow stationary piro's or practice landing in all orientations. I also will use the last minute or two of the main tank to practice auto's.

RAK402 - Richer

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

I get 10 to 15min. all depends on what type of fling I am doing.

Hmm,

Mine always speeds up and leans out a bit at the last of the main tank (all three, two Knights and one Raptor).

You can hear the exhaust note change to more of a two-cycle as well.

Less hydrostatic pressure=less pressure at the carburator.

Main tank empty, running on header, mine goes richer most def.

One thought, if your engine speeds up when you go on the header tank you *may* be running a tad lean. Or your clunk line in the main tank may be going soft causing it to partially collapse when the tank is dry.

BTW, I find that I don't really need a header tank. My Raptor's fly just fine down to 1/4" of fuel in the tank. - that takes about 3oz off the weight of the heli.

All my machines run rich, all the time.

I am after engine longevity more than performance.

All lines hoses are good, and are checked and replaced on a regular basis.

There are enough post to the contrary of what I believe I have been observing to cause me to look at it/listen to it again.

flight time depends on serval things such as head speed amount of nitro in fuel type of flying and wa engine u r using but between 9 and 15 mins i think is the norm for just hovering and circuit maybe a little less

for longer flight time use lower nitro and also have a lower head speed
