e-Miniature Aircraft Furion - Razor - Ion-X > Ion main shaft collar slipped

Hello guys,

I've never had these main shaft collars slip until recently at the SEFF event (yeah events make you fly harder). I didn't really notice it until I went to pick up the heli and felt that the main shaft could shift up and down quite a bit . Luckily it didn't slip enough to cause the tail gear to disengage.

After that I made sure the collars were tightened down hard and they're holding up fine now. I thought I read cgbole doubled up on these collars at some point, which I was thinking of doing myself. Just curious, how many of you Ion flyers have had to double up on these or have had slippage?

I'm thinking this will be a must when I'm ready to go 14S.

Chachin..

Yep... Mike was test flying the E Stratus and it slipped on an inverted punch out. Misskimo told me he doubled up the lower collar.
So i did the same and never had the problem again. Also, the collars are bad about splitting where the threads go through. it'll be a very small crack you prob won't see unless you are looking for it. I was told it was because i tightened it too much..

Problem with the collar is like Chuck saying, if you tighten them too much they will crack instantly.

Turn until it stop and turn another 1/4 turn max, I have never had a slip since I started to tighten them less...

I had a crashed with my Ion-X last three weeks. After spooling up inverted, The heli was spinning around in mid-air and hitted the ground. I checked the lower colar and slipped up the main shaft for about 1/4-inch. I lost all the teeths on a crown gear. I don't know if this due to colar slipped up. I will try to post pictures up tonight.

Thanks for the very useful info guys. That's exactly what happened to me. It seemed like it was only the bottom collar that had slipped but since I wasn't 100% sure, I retightened both. Hopefully I didn't overtighten them now, but I tried not to over do it.

I will be ordering 3 new collars for the Ion next time to double them up at the bottom. Thanks again.

Chachin..

PS: Sorry to hear about the crash Tracy . The lower collar slip will allow for less tooth contact on the crown gear. This makes it more prone to stripping. This is why I think I was extremely lucky that day.
