Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Just about ready to fly.... Vario Benzin Trainer!

.... timing is everything isn't it?

As I just about complete the build of my Vario Benzin Trainer, I am heading off to go out of town. Therefore, I won't be back for a week to fly it!

Anyhow it went together nicely, with a few bumps in the road here and there. Here are some pictures:

Any comments (good or bad) would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

That looks awesome, but what about the Helicommand and vibrations? Seems like it would need to be mounted away from the motor isolated. I use the same blue, white wire protectors and blue heat shrink tubing on my wires. The stuff works pretty good and it looks neat.

Where the HeliCommand is mounted was not my first choice. I would have liked to mount it on the tail boom, but I would have had to order additional tail boom rings and make a mount of some sort.

Then, I would have had to used multiple 12" extensions to go from the front to back, and then back to the front again. I secured it pretty well, for it doesn't move very easily from just the push or wiggle method. Yet, I guess once I start it I will really find out how it does work. Else, I will move it to the rear.

Thanks for the comments!

Mike

Dang Mike, that looks awesome,, really nice wire job, I don't think you will have a problem with the HC place'ed where you have it,, It's ashame that you have to wait a week to get it into the air,, but family first.. Try and have a good time on vacation, thinking about that heli just sitting there,, or you could ship it to me,, and I would fly it for you.. Again,, Congrats,, Looks really nice, and clean,, XGM/VGM

John,

Thanks for the comments! You know, you are only 380 miles away from me. You could always come up and bring your gear so I can learn on it!!

pgk,, that would be so cool to come where you live,, up until a couple of years ago, I had not even seen the ocean, and I'm 48, I won a trip thru Budweiser, (I used to work for them 17 years),,, to Puerto Rico, and I learned how to dive,, that was awesome, the highlight of my life, a once in a life time deal for me,, I would love to be able to come where you live,, but that probley isn't going to happen in my life time,, But hey, you never know what's around the corner.. XGM/VGM

Sounds good Mike,, Yes I do the AP thing full time, but not really enough money or jobs where I live, I need to be some where, where the scenery is better, or more construction,, Mostly oilfield, around here, and pretty flat, with a couple of trees.. But I love doing it, so that is what I do. I got tired of making money for someone else,, but that's life,, XGM/VGM

How can this happen?

Live 46 years and not see the ocean? You gotta get out and see the world some, being couped up in the middle of the US all your life is not a good thing!

You gotta get out some more!!!!!!!!! (I can't put enough ! marks) Speaking of that, I'm walking away from runryder and the PC until tonight. Too much of a time sink you don't get anything else done!

Where do I find one of those rear-mount mufflers? I can't seem to find one anywhere!

Nice build Mike.

I would recommend mounting the HC at the front of the boom or at least further back on the frame . You will find too much vibration on the frame for it to work properly. I think the further away from the CofG the better it is able to recognize pitch changes and has better vertical dampening. At least that is what I have found.

Thanks Dave and John for the heads-up on the muffler. Now, will it fit on a Spectra-G with some mods?

Even though they both use Zenoah engines, The Vario motor is differant then the spectra motor, you may want to talk to the manufacture first to find out.
