leftyatm - that's a nice find for a $509.00 starter TRex... Man that and Clearview you'd be in business.... IMO

Does this work? There are other options. But this looks the best and to top it off you get a reasonable radio that you can use in the future on more than one heli. But it's ready to fly even with a charger for that battery. It is not the best kit out there and some of the weak links will be the non metal gears in the servos and the plastic head but that would get you started and you could upgrade as you crash cause you probably will.

is the copterX parts compatible? Sry for jacking this thread lmao, I guess I should find another or make one in the right place. I knew there were knock offs of popular models, I just didn't know the prices were that different.

Not that I'd like to rip trex (align?) off, but I know if I bought a clone they'd make it up with replacement parts I'd buy from my many crashes heh

Wow, thank you all very much for the responses! To be honest I was not expecting so many.. I have much to look at now, and think about.

Now from what I've read it seems some helis are "ready to fly" but you still need to buy a lot for them. I was wondering if you could fly these until your crash or break something and then replace them.

As this is my first heli I don't want to jump right in but gradually.. All though I love helis and I'm pretty sure I won't back out so I don't want to get a cheap heli and have to buy a new one.. better one. Slowly buying parts would be much nicer.

I'm still new to all this and if someone is willing to talk to me about it (preferably email or IM) I have plenty of questions.
Thanks for all the posted!

From what I have read about Copter X, Is the motor shaft is week
the esc is crap and the servos don't last. It would be safe to say you get what you pay for.

Now on the other hand as a newb your gonna crash it when you do, Start replacing parts with Align components

Heres another link on complete packages
My choice would be this one
Trex 450S eCCPM Spectrum Complete Package 499.00
and upgrade with metal head from CopterX when your ready

http://www.helihobby.com/html/trex_helicopter.html
Shop around before you buy and stay away from the to good to be true deals, buy the quality components or you will buy twice if you go cheap you will regret it later, I know this first hand

If your serious about wanting to learn to fly get a sim it will be your best investment
Phoenix is a good one free updates, new models and is easy on your computer
there is also Realflight G4
Clearview

If you decide you want to stay in the Hobby I highly recommend getting a 30 size (500~600)machine

JM2C's :)

Ive already said go with a 30 or 50 nitro so I guess you know where I stand but Id like to put a word of caution out there as well. RTF kits are almost never RTF. Read up on it in the many threads about RTFs of various brands. The smart guys do a good deal of dis assembly and checking for locktite etc.

I was wondering, nobody has talked about the Blade 400 package, I dont own one, but it looks (marketing Im sure) like a pretty good deal for under $500, w/ a pretty good radio that, though not the best can take you onward and upward. If you need to go mini and dont have deep pockets that at least looks like a heli that should at least make the list.........

Personally I find the 450s a bit hard to fly and see, much less stable than my good 'ole Hawk but hats just me

The Blade400 is not a bad deal but it is by no means a great deal. It is a good place to start if the newbie absolutely doesn't care about anything but charging and flying in one hour. Otherwise I think you should spend that money on a 450 sized heli and some good components. Of course that does not mean a Rex450SEv2. If yo uhave to have a Rex, get the Rex450S (even the CF version) and grow into it. Like Blade_Master said when you are ready for more, the sky is the limit.

Also if that package isn't what you are looking for call Nikki, manager for HeliHobby, she is a pilot and very cool 818 348 4354. She can set you up any package you desire for the best price period. "I am also a customer"

I suggest purchasing a couple Lightning Power 2200mah "anti-puff" lipos they can take serious abuse and when you package a couple lipos in she can really save you money!

P.S. If you prefer email it is NikkiC@HeliHobby "dot com" but I suggest just calling her. dot com = .com just don't want the spam engines to grab her address.

Ok now it is becoming one of those here is a good deal things. Anyway you look at it an Rtf requires a lot of work to actually get it flying. Not to mention most of the radios that come with those are kind of generic. You really should find someone locally and see what they are flying and what they suggest. Not to mention maybe something your LHS (local hobby shop) carries. That will make parts a lot easier to come by. Not to mention I think we has pretty much established that you will definately be spending more than $500 on a setup. If you don't you could end up like a lot of others and get discouraged and totally loose interest.

Bring back the rotary phone so we don't have to press "1" to proceed to ENGLIGH.

Did you miss the great offer I showed you at flying-hobby. It has everything you need to fly. I believe it even came with a little charger. Of course over time you will upgrade and replace the equipment with better, faster and more reliable stuff but it is a great price to get you in the air at only 509. Do not aand I repeat DO NOT invest in a blade 400. I went through two at one time thinking they were ok. Guess what they are now gone.

My $.02 (and depreciating rapidly...)

I'm still learning, but what I've found to be a great help expanding my enevelope beyond a sim is the dead simple, cheap (<$100), yet very durable HoneyBee FP.

It's fixed pitch, but it'll teach you to hover as well as orientation, which is the hardest part for me. Plus it's tough. I've slammed it hard into my garage door and all it needed was a flybar rod (bulk carbon rod from LHS, <$5), and CA. Super fun, you can fly forever on a single battery. Even if you somehow to manage to completely destroy it (run over with a car?), a barebones kit costs less than the CF blades of a 500-600 heli.

The RTF kit is pretty close. You should add some lipos from a coaxial and a new battery holder (2 paper clips and some packaging tape ), reinforce the head (CA + dental floss) and you're good to go.

If you want to go the el cheapo dinero way then the esky honey bee fp is a good choice. I started out on one of those and it's what got me hooked into this hobby. It by no means is a heli to have and continually fly once your good. It is just good to start out with. It gives you basic movements and real experience. It's easy to fix and cheap to as well. Only downside is that the parts aren't readily available. I had to order all my parts from california most times. Look at my posts and one of the classifieds. I have pictures of all the parts I had. The main thing you will break constantly is the I forget the name at the moment, the top piece that holds the wings. But yes it's a good starter heli.

Thanks helismith I appreciate it. I love this hobby. I'm done buying helis for a while now. Haha. Now is time just to fix and replace as I crash and upgrade along the way. I.E. Torque Tubes for the CF and 500.
I would recommend getting a 600 CF. Have the best of both worlds. I haven't had my NSP up in the air yet. I still have to buy the electronics for it. It is built though
