A question for you 12z/14z masters. If I set up a flight condition optimized for hovering (gear down)and one for forward flight, can I get the landing gear to retract when the condition switch is flipped by reversing the landing gear switch in flying condition?

Hopefully I am on the right page here but...

You could assign your condition switch to operate your conditions and your gear at the same time. I don't see why you couldn't tie your gear channel into your condition switch. That way when you go into your flying condition your gear comes up as well as your other settings taking place at the same time.

Is that what you meant?

Exactly! My thought was one less switch to mess with. I have set up the hover/flight conditions for my H-500 and it did seem to smooth out the hover, almost like having some expo on the throttle/collective.

My thoughts for the Sea King (when completed) was to set conditions for ground taxi, hover and flight condition. I have a little Airwolf built around a T-Rex 450 that has retracts so I might try it on that one.

The flight condition switch has three positions, plus there is the throttle hold condition. It might be better to use an offset type pmix that you would set the desired gear position for each flight condition. This way throttle hold would put/keep the gear down too.

Good point, I hadn't thought about "hold". This is EXACTLY the reason why I posted this, the vast scope of knowledge and view points.

Thanks!

Yeah, I like the simplicity of one switch. Hover around in normal with the gear down, idle up and have the gear come up to fly around with. I only use a normal and idle up mode for my helis. I don't see a need for anything else, simple is key for me.

The hold idea is good also in case you need to auto.

I even hate the thought of having to auto with the Sea King. How well do 5 blade heads auto???? That's an answer I'd prefer NOT to have first hand knowledge of!

you can assign both gear and flight mode on one single switch. Heck, you can even get creative and make logical switch that will only retract the gear if you're in the correct flight mode and with throttle above X% or pitch or whatever.

I'm still trying to figure out how to setup the 14mz to make a coffe when in TH so I can drink it hot when the bird lands. Any ideas?

You can do all you want with a 14MZ, just will take some testing, you can use hardware switching. Better yet just set a program mix. When i hit throtal hold it shuts off my GV1 even if my governer is on, on the on off switch. you could do the same thing

I forgot about that! I programmed a Bell222 a few months ago to open and close the retracts scale like (slowly) when actuated by a switch but in case of TH, it would imediately make the wheels jump out (fastest setting) by just switching into TH without the need of any aditional switch

Tony, I like that idea! How did you set it up? I looked into the programable mixes last night and I got TOTALLY confused!

Any of you guys good at writting? I think a book titled "PROGRAMMING THE 14MZ/12Z FOR DUMMIES" would be a best seller!

Not very good at writing but I did make a small reference on how to programm a switchglo into your 14mz http://www.skynetlabs.org/diversos/switchglo.pdf

Anyway, back to the gear stuff... its pretty easy. You need to setup a logical switch and assign it to TH... basically what it sais is that IF TH is engaged AND gear is UP then LOWER it. You can use servo % to define when gear is up and when not.

Thanks Tony. I printed your instructions out and will read them later. I plan to put a switch-n-glo on my Sea King, so this will be a big help. Hopefully, I'll find these instuctions can be used as a guide for other mixes as well. I've never used a mix of any kind before so this is all new to me.

Thx

Unfortunately no. I have a post on RR though about making use of the "accel" function to give that extra pop during 3D but it never quite got through to the masses

If there is interest, I can write a step-by-step guide for the landing gear after I finish writing my review of the new multigov pro

I finally got my landing gear on the Puma to go up an down using the sprung switch on the 14MZ i.e. flick forward once, the retracts go up, flip forward again, the retracts come back down. It involves using a mix and setting the switch to momentary. You can also set it that you can't put the retracts up untill the throttle is open so that you don't mistakenly retract while on the ground. Another thing I do is set the retracts to move fast if I hit throttle hold. I like the option of getting the wheels up and out the way if it's going to be a belly flop style so that I don't rip all the gear mounts and linkages out. That is a personal choice and has saved my Airwolf retracts at least once. Don't really want to test the theory out on my Puma if I can help it!!

You have a Puma? Wow. Thats one of the most beautiful helis for me. Especially with a UN scheme. Not sure why but they appear much bigger in white than with military colors.
