Hi Guys I need help I have an EVO 50 and this is my problem, I sometimes get a noise from what sounds like the main gear or clutch, sounds kind or like slipping gear, or like the clutch is not running true on the shaft, it's a weird noise and loud too, also sometimes when I hover my chopper will piro by itself, sometimes the tail just jumps left or right
and other times it just goes 360, and I have checked everthing about 10 times, new clutch, new bell, new main gear, and auto hub, tail belt is fine not loose, or tight, nothing bent everything balanced,
do you think I have a bad gyro, or tail servo? Thanks in advance I know you guys will come up with something.

Check the receiver and transmitter crystals. Check all the plugs and connectors. Check if the tail hub is free so that the tail blades move smoothly.

Not too sure about the noise, but have you checked the tail control metal rod to make sure that it's not slipping? It's the one that connects the servo to the tail rotor. The connection is underneath the tail.

oh, the noise could be a seized shaft bearing?

HELP PLEASE I'M DESPERATE ...........

HI and thanks to all that responded. I have checked everything you gentlemen mentioned, but I have localized the noise to the main gear, clutch, clutch bell area, I have replaced all these parts with new, and went so far as to get the machined delrin main gear set, I'm at my witts end, so I would appreciate any other thoughts or suggestions,

Thanks a bunch, you guys rock.....

Check gyro gain?
I know I said to check connections but move the rudder servo wire around after the gyro has initialised - broken wire? Also see what happens when you move the rudder stick - does the servo react smoothly? Reason I ask is because one of the wires going to my rudder channel inside the Tx had broken - old, 90's era Futaba FF7

(I really am clutching at straws here!)

That noise could also be a bad bearing in the MOTOR.

When you replaced the clutch etc.. did you push the engine and clutch bell assy upwards too far into the top bearing? This may cause a grinding sound.

HELP PLEASE I'M DESPERATE ...........

Hi Guys, I am now in the process of removing the engine, clutch clutch bell, one way bearing, and will check all, and I will re-install and make sure I don't push the engine up too far, I will also switch out my JR5000 gyro and send it in for a checkup, I have a new GY401 I will try, I am also going to reset my tail belt tension, and the tail gear and will make sure to re-install everything straight, and make sure my alignment is true, if this doesn't work i think I will pul out the 3 hairs I have left on my head...AARGH LOL.
Thanks for all the great input, I said it before and I say it again,
YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!

Thanks Eric G

Some people glue the bearing onto the clutch bell that it rides in. The very top of the pinion gear can rattle around if not secured in the bearing.
The standard black gears are noisy.

Your tail servo could have a dead spot so it is not returning properly that causes the helicopter to jump around and sometimers piroettes. I had a S9254 do this. It took some time to find by holding the servo horn to put a load on the servo and the giving full left and right rudder slowly back and forth.

I use a 9254 on my EVO and that's jittery. I wondered anout using a ferrite ring on the leads.

Has anyone done this?

the noise sounds like the one way or possibly the bearing in the engine itself. could have some fine debris in it. also check the gear mesh on the pinion(clutch bell) and main gear. alot of times an improper mesh will make alot of noise. i set mine buy sticking a piece of bond copy paper ( not tissue like some idiot i know:confusedbetween the 2 gears, rotate the gears a few times then tighten all the bolts/screws and remove the paper by gently pulling it out.te goal here is to almost no backlash, but not so tight that they grind against each other. if thier too loose the teeth will bang around and wear out quick, and possibly chip or break in flight

damn, that was close!
