Should I fly 6s, 7s or 8s in EP550?
Anyone try it?

6s will not fly, 7s will fly but weak(a motor with higher KV may work), 8s rocks!
I have been flying 8s A123 for almost a year now and love it. I originally was flying the RCP h18/11 motor which gave 4 minute flights with great performance, I now am running the scorpion 1000kv which suits the 8s better, it runs very cool and head speeds are good, but it lacks the power the H18 had, but I now get 5 minute flights. I will probalby go back to the RCP motor though just because of the power. but the Scorpion will do anything you want but it doesn't hold the headspeed as well, rolls and flips are no problem but tic tocs and any else harder it drops a bit.

why don't you try the scorpion 1400kv, the power is much higher

beside, which ESC are you using now?

I was using the stock 50 amp esc with no problems on 8s, I went with the 1000kv because the RCP had ballistic power on 8s but 4 min flights, the 1000kv gave me longer fight times with pretty good power. Now I am running the Castle HV85 esc and may go with 10cell and either the 800kv Z30 or stick with the Scorpion 1000kv and try 9s. going with the A123 cells you need to go as high a voltage as you can to get the flight time, going with a higher KV motor will give the power you want but flight time will go down. the stock 890 motor I was getting 7 or 8 minutes on 7s A123, hard to recall now but it was real sluggish, but flight time was great. 7s A123 will give less performance then 6s lipo, but 8s will outperform the 6s lipo. A123 can only sustain 2.7v where lipo will sustain 3.4 I believe, so even though both 6s lipo and 7s A123 show 25.2v with no load, the A123 7s pack will only produce 18.9v and the 6s lipo will produce 20.4, but 8s A123 is 21.6.

thank you so much
one more question, what is the headspeed of normal and 3D flying?

I found that there is 2200mAh and 20C of LiFe provided
Is it enough for EP550?

concept1, what is your gear ratio? stock gear?
Also, is it too heavy to fly 8 cell A123?

I am running the revco gears and a 21t pinion, but only because that was my only choice last year! now Gaui has upgraded their gears and are pretty good, mine is about the same as a stock gearing and a 13t pinion. as for the weight no, not a problem, I acctually preffer the 8s A123 over the much lighter 6s 2500 lipo, it flies more like a 50 size nitro with the extra weight, it is very solid in the air.

do you mean the gear of (61/19)*(42/13)?
for 8 cell 2300mAh LiFe, it should be around 580g
I'm afraid the head would be too heavy and difficult to balance the CG
