Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > RAPTOR 90 New head bearings are notchy on Raptor 90 3d Anyone else had this?

Ok,

I am building a new Raptor 90 3d. I am assembling the head at the moment and have decided to use two of one,two or three shim the option.

The problem comes when tightening up the spindle bolts and compressing the whole assembly.

Both sides become notchy. I have double checked to ensure everything is in the correct place, washers, bearings, thrust races around the correct way and greased but both sides still become notchy when tightened up.

The only thing I can think of is that the two washers are putting too much pressure on the bearings.

Anyone else had this issue?

Donīt worry, itīs notching only without loading (on the bench).
Try pull both grips apart to simulate flying load and it will be O.K. surelly.
But two washer is really too much with original damper. I am finishing R90-3D now and I have only one washer on both sides.

I did think under load the condition would improve.

I have pulled both grips out and still get the notchy feel.

Having built a few different makes I have never had a head behave like this before.

If Thunder Tiger say that you can add 1-3 washer then how can 2 be too much?

I think I will just put it back together and see if it improves after a few gallons

Cheers

Sounds like your bearings may have been damaged during instillation. Take out the bearings and see if they are smooth – put the spindle in the bearings and turn them with a little side load to make sure they are all smooth.

The bearing are fine offload. It is only underload.

The shims are there to adjust the hardness of the dampers.

Two shims may be too much for the radial bearings.

The importer says they will bed in but I am not convinced.

How many shims are people running?
