Radio - Futaba FASST > 9C upgrade to 2.4g or spetrum???

Hello

My 8 channel PCM 1024 futaba receiver failed last weekend. I am now thinking of going 2.4ghz, but I am not sure if i should upgrade my 2 year old Futaba 9C super with 2.4g module and receiver combo, or go with Spectrum DX7???

I can get the 2.4Ghz module and A7000 receiver for 144 Uk pounds
Or I can get DX7 with A7000 no servos for 205 Uk pounds

Or I can replace my 1024 PCM receiver for 70 Uk pounds lol.

Suggestions please as I don't know if the DX7 tx is as good as 9C, but then again my 9C is 2yrs old and hasn't been serviced!
Suggestions welcome!!

I would argue that the 9C is a better radio than the DX7....BUT the 9303 would win my vote.

If you are happy with your 9C, just get the module...unless you are willing to make the change over to what seems to be the better technology right now (DSM2 .. flame suit on) and jump to the 9303.

theres a few from our club that have moved onto the dx9 and if i needed a new radio then i would also shell out £500 for the new dx9 plus the £300 it would cost in receivers to upgrade my fleet. however there not that much more that the dx9 could currently do for me that is worth paying £800 to move on tooso for now until the 9c disintegrates into a ball of flames im happy to stick with it.
besides by the time you do upgrade something bigger and better would have probably come along

I have both a DX7 and a 9C with Spektrum module.

I bought the DX7 when I switched to 2.4GHz and find it a totally adequate radio for all my uses. I like the fact that it has 20 model memories and the model match is handy. Battery life is great on the stock battery. My only complaints are the lack of a throttle stick activated timer and the funky throttle kill feature where you have to hold the throttle down trim button until it hits the end of travel.

I really missed the throttle stick timer so I bought a Spektrum module and installed it in my 9C. I HATE the way they did the antenna connector.... a real kludge. I eventually drilled through the back of the module and module pocket and ran the cable internally. After installing a CX2 antenna in place of the collapsible one, it looks totally factory installed. However, I found that I missed the much faster control response from the DX7 vs. the 9C more than I missed the lack of a stick timer so I am now back to using the DX7 exclusively. It is quite noticeable, especially on smaller helis.

If you do get the DX7, do NOT use the Futaba charger. The connector is the same on the DX7 but the polarity is reversed.

Thanks guys for your help and suggestions

I went to my LHS and was converted. I bought a DX7 . Having looked at the module based system for the 9C I have found out that it has a slower response time than the DX7 technolgy. I didn't realise that although the module upgrade transmitts on 2.4GHz it is confined to the orginal PCM 1024 system, and doesn't transmitt the packets of data the same way as the DX7 DMS2 technology.

I have flown this weekend and I must say to sum up my experience, "AMAZING". I have to admit I didn't think that the DX7 was that good but my opinion has changed now. I run 6V-reg digital servos and the response of the collective and cyclic is truthly phenominal.

Anyone that is reading this post who like me has a futaba 9C and is wondering what to do? Get the DX7 and sell the 9C on ebay. I would also like to mention that although the programing is probably not as easy as the 9C it does everything that is needed to fly hard 3D.

Cheers guys.

If what you wanted was faster response time, then the Futaba FASST 7C is faster then the DX7. good luck with your new Radio.

I own both Radios and they are both nice.

Doug.

They are in the same ballpark,,the 9C is not in any form.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them
