JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Stupid question of the night... blade tracking

Well today, during the first flight with my vibe 50 and a new set of radix SB, I experienced that the blades were out of track (something that hasn't happen to me in like 3 years... wierd but ok).

Now I do know how to make both blades track the same on a "normal" heli i.e. one that has the mixing arms at the seesaw level. You just need to adjust the small link that goes between the mixing arm and the blade but how in earth do you do it on a Vibe? Do you adjust the long link that is between the swashplate and the mixing arm or the short link that is between the mixing arm and the flybar?

Not even the manual explains what link you need to adjust. I ended up messing with the long link between the mixing arm and swashplate since thats the one that inputs pitch but I'm not sure thats the correct way.

On another note, I just checked my linkage length and in order to get the blades to track perfectly, one of the links has to be now 1mm shorter than the other... what the heck? I usually just bolt the blades on and they're usually spot on. Why isn't this new set? Is it in the blade or maybe something else lurking around?

Thx for your input

Tony

You should only adjust the link attached directly to the hiller mixing arm attached to the blade grip. Usually when I find after a new heli gets alot of time on it, the ball links start to wear out and adjusting of the other links becomes necessary to compensate. After one adjustment of the other links, I do no more and replace the links. On a new heli, after the links seat in, your going to have to a retrack. Every time you change out the blades to another set, more than likely your going to have to track the blades especially if there is a large difference in weight. Tracking adjustment should be done to a "master" blade, the one you used to set your pitch range. What I do is if the adjustment is greater than a half turn, I move the master the appropriate direction 1/2 turn and the "slave" blade one half turn the opposite direction. If your adjusting one blade a great amount, your making it so the two blades do not have the same pitch at a given point in the range. Hope this is helpful.

Thx man.

It ended being something completely different though. On my previous crash, my blades folded and made a small cut in each of the tail grips. I never paid too much attention because I had this happen previously on some of my other birds and it never was a problem. However, the other day I decided to give the whole thing a closer inspection and on one blade grip the ding was deeper than I though which created a "hump" in the inside of the grip effectively locking the thrust bearing. This alone was enough to make the new blades be out of track. I changed the grips and everything was perfect again
