Im thinking about buying a GY401 But i could use a new tail servo as-well..

Anyone got some suggestions for alternative servos?

Also.. Is there a point in changing out the plastic parts with MicroHeli aluminum parts?

cylic servos- hitec 65mg or jr ds285
tail servo- futaba 9257 or jr 3400g

as for the head i would leave it plastic flys great and is cheap to fix, then again i was never a microheli fan so thats my opinion..

fly hard or keep trying!!!!

How about the S9254 Digital Servo.. Its even better right?

Seems you can get it a bit cheaper at ebay..

Not a bad idea to upgrade but:

What exactly are you looking to improve?

3D response?
Locked in tail for easier simple flight?
Faster piros?

I agree mrteak. Stay away from Micoheli parts. I have had several of their items for my Trex and every one of them was crap and not worth what I payed for them . The finish was horrible and the parts were soft and would bend with the slightest amount of pleasure being applied to them .

I measure MY progress by the size of the parts list at the end of the day

I think my Stock Gyro is broken .. So im thinking about just buying a new better one.. It could be the servo as-well but..

The heli would just rotate around it self.. Trim didn't help and so didn't trying to control it with the sticks..

The 401 is a great gyro.

The G3400, is now the G3500 I think.

They're very good.

When did it start spinning on you?

After a crash?

Would you take G3400 /G3500 over S9254?

It was right out of the box.. First flight.. Iv emailed Horizon 3 times.. Still yet to get a answer..

I have not used the S9254.

If the G3400 could be better, I don't know how.

That's tough about Eflight.

Have you tweaked the gain?

Have you done the "shake test"? Serious question.

I have 285's cyclics, stock gyro and 9650 in the tail. My 401 will come in a few days. I also have a ccbec running 6V. Everything else is stock.

Just to remind you if your choice is going to 9257 or 9254 you need a step down regulator if your system is running 6V. Both servos are 4.8V only.

How long have you had this 400?

Can you send it back?

hs-65hb's on the main rotor, good response and durability but I wish I would have tried the digital servo for compairsion.
Lt-2100t with a S9650 for the tail, could never get it to LOCK really tight so I tried the HG-5000 package and seems much better straight out of the box. At some point I will swap things around, 2100t with hs 5083 and 5000 with 9650. On th eoutside the LT-2100t and the HG-5000 are the same, set up is the same rummor has it that the HG is a remarked LT so if something is different it's on the inside as I said it dose hold better, keep in mind no 3d just hover, box pattern and 8's with ff flight. LT 2100 and 9656 ran me about 140.00 has at a hs last week and the owner gave me a price of 135 for the HS package, think I'll have to go back there and give him some more business.

Is this just a small adapter or something?

Yes. It's a $8 step down for 6 volt to 4.8 volt.

I would try to send it back if it never worked right.

On Helifreak, Finless Bob shows how to test a gyro for correct response.

OK, So I happened to get my hands on a stock B400. Looks like the concensus is upgrading the cyclic servos with hitec 65mg or jr ds285 and the tail with futaba 9257 or jr 3400g.

I plan to upgrade to a 401 as well.

What output voltage does the stock ESC send to the servos and gyro now? Is it 6v or 4.8v? With any of the servos listed above, do I need any type of stepdown in voltage etc? What voltage does the 401 run at? either?

What is my best path for upgrade?

Also, Should I look at upgrading the motor and ESC as well? or is stock good for now?

Thanks for the help....

I measured the stock ESC at 5.1v. The 401 manual suggests 4v-6vDC here's a screen of the manual.

BTW, I'm running GY401 9257, and the 65mg's with a cc10a BEC at4.8v. Flies great !

the manual is at: http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/futm0807-manual.pdf

sorry for my ignorance when it comes to electrics, they are new to me....

why the need for a seperate BEC if the stock puts out only 5.1v?

HiTech HS65HBs are cheap and durable and work superb they are just about a straight fit as a needle file does the job to open the mount for the pitch and aileron servos a little
