I have been reading all the threads on the 12Z vs 14MZ. So why do I want to spend the extra $800.00 for a color screen that's fussy in the cold....I'm fussy in the cold and two fussy's just won't get along.....I think I can spend $800.00 on alot of Heli parts....or another Heli Also who uses all 14 chanels? You still get to use them on the 12Z. Even in my 35% Yak. So PLEASE help an old man to understand. Thanks my Brothers! Papa Sal

I have flown all three, in my opinion the 14mz and 12z feel about the same, except for heft. The 12fg just didn't feel as comfortable in my hands, the gimbles are spaced a bit different than the 14mz and 12z. I was set to buy a 12z, when someone I had complete trust in offered me a 14mz for less money than a 12z new costs. I couldn't pass it up. I really like the 14mz over the 12z, mainly for the touch screen and hot key navigation. But if it came down to purchasing new, the price difference would force me to choose the 12z over the 14mz.

Ignorance is curable, stupidity is for life.

i just bought the 12Z as well........one thing to consider over the FG is the sticks, they are different, and cost about 3 times as much for the 12/14Z,
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6.../tm.htm#6946003

but when it comes down to making a choice between the 12 or 14Z, ooooh, that's a tough one. they both do almost exactly the same thing in terms of setup and programming.
i for one have not held a 14Z, but during my quest to decide on the 12Z over the FG i was in contact with many guys (including Team Futaba flyers) who have both and they all said they liked the 12Z more as it's a bit smaller and just feels better in their hands.

if you go here and go to the gallery, you can see a size comparison between the 12 and 14.

good luck on your choice

I have a 12Z and have seen a 14MZ. I did not regret my choice compared to the cost difference. The differences is really the touch color screen, metal case for the 14MZ (the 12Z is all plastic but it looks nice), the ability to play music files and show a picture of your model. Also the 14MZ has two slides and two trim buttons more than the 12Z (but I think the 12Z has plenty). Functionalitywise I do not think there are any differences if you take the added features from the updates.

For me I would get the 12Z over the 14MZ again.

RCfun,

are you sure the 14Z is a metal case?
other sites and the members there have reported that the 14's case is plastic with plating just like the 12's.............look at these pictures of a 14Z that has been opened up and you'll see what i mean,

I am not 100% sure but I think the front and rear plating is cast magnesium or something similar. Look at the photos you linked to. Especially the left one in the last row. If it where plastic why would Futanba waste paint to paint the backside of the casing. The sides that hold the front and rear plates are plastic of course.

Anyway who cares to be honest. Your 9C was plastic and I suppose it has been fine
My previous radio before the 12Z was a Multiplex Royal Evo which had a significant plastic feel to it. However, it was still a good radio.

nah, never had a 9C...........but like you said, it's not that important.
was just pointing out that a few guys over at FG had actually removed the backs of their 14's and confirmed that the case is just like the 12Z and is plated.
one guy had to buy a back half and it's there that they discovered that they are palstic as the replacement didn't match at all.

In 14mz these two brackets are made from aluminium.
All other parts are plastic.

I've got a couple weeks flying behind me now with the 12Z and I am TOTALLY satisfied. The sticks are silky smooth and responce time time is NOW. Yes, the programing takes some getting used to, (moved up from a 9CHP Super)but the capabilities.......WOW!
