ok, just curious.
which one flies better and performs better.
I have seen a beam fly before and it looked pretty nice.
My trex gets the job done and then some. but i was curious to what your opinions were.
Thanks
(btw , i posted this twice in the rex forum to get both opinions)

I've had a Trex 450se, Mini-Titan, MX400, and a Gazaur 480, and the Beam E4 is the best 450 I've ever owned.

There are about 10 Beam owners in the Seattle area and they all happy with theirs. I myself flown with almost all 450 size out there but none is better than the beam.

I haven't had a chance to fly mine yet, but quality wise, the Beam is FAR superior to the T-rex.

They're both great little helis. You could debate all day long which one is better and why. I own both, have built both and could point out both bad and good things about both. There are some really good points about both helis, I'd like personally like to see a T-ream, combine the good from both

I personally don't think you can say one is FAR better than the other. They're both great and they both have some short comings.

If you had a chance to play with both, I'd think your will probably find a couple of edges on the Beam.

Not to say that the trex SE v2 is not good. But just for the general layout and for the tail pulley setup, you have a winner.

Now had to this the incredibly hot look of the beam and my choice is made.

This machine is just right for this market size. and pricing are really good too!

have fun!

I have a T-rex v2 And love it. when I was looking to buy, I didn't not know what one to go with. So being new I went with the T-Rex, with planes of buying a beam for my next heli. Then i'll have the best of both worlds.

How many Beam replacement parts are in your LHS? I like the quality of the Beam construction, particularly the belt drive system, better than the T-Rex. But for now, I can get most, or at least the common, replacment parts locally for the T-Rex. Can't say that about the Beam.

The Trex 450se using old design and two piece frame, and multi-pieced tail. Alot of people are now comparing the Beam E4 as if it was a Trex 450se V3 design because the Beam uses one simple one piece frame, and a one piece tail.

I've had both the Trex 450se, and now the Beam E4, and the Beam is a way superior design, and also flies superior. The Beam E4 is way lighter than the Trex 450 also.

Parts support can be an issue, as there are a few online shops that carry support. But, like most people I knew even with the Trex 450, they always carried with them a gang of stock parts at the field. They had like 5 tail booms, five gears, five landing skids, etc, etc, etc.

To me, part support is no issue, as I stocked up also. Why have an outdated, old fashion, old frame and tail design Trex 450, when you can have the latest, and greatest 450 out in the market with the Beam E4. Its just superior in all ways.

Windrider,

You're gonna say the same thing about the Beam when the MA Fury450 finally comes out? But seriously, my guess is that a T-Rex is still beyond the flying skills of most heli pilots.

The Beam is a great little heli, especially for the money. I just wish the 50 and 90 class heli's would come down in price. Why are they still so expensive? The material cost is only a small part of the cost to produce a heli. Most of the cost is for machining time. In this regards the Beam and T-Rex both Xcell. Was that just another plug for the Fury450?

Don't know much about the Fury 450. The only other new heli to come out to give the Beam a run for its money is the Rave 450 that will have torque tube.

I like the 450 size heli's cause they are really cheap to fix in a crash unlike the bigger 500 and up size.

I have a Beam and have had a TREX 450SE V1 and V2. Both are great little helicopters. IMHO the beam has some design features that make it better to me.

1. Most important is that the linkages from the servos up to the swash plate on the beam are all the same length. This makes interaction much easier to eliminate.

2. The servo setup on the beam makes changing servo gears really easy. If you leave the wires exposed enough you can unbolt a servo and do the work without having to mess your wiring job up.

3. The roll servo arm does not contact the main gear like it does on a TREX 450SE (the fix for this on the TREX was to move the arm up a spline which screwed with interaction).

4. The main frame is not a stacked frame design thus it does not have all of the spacers that a stacked frame design has.

5. The tail gear box is a nice design that does not need to have all of its spacers removed to replace the tail output shaft or belt.

6. The drive train on the Beam is VERY smooth and quiet. A trex 450 is pretty loud whereas a Beam is nice and quiet.

7. Quality of the Beam is really high, and it’s a work of art to look at without the canopy on it (The blue anodizing on the TREX 450 looks cheap and toyish to me)...

Like I said before both helis are really nice and fly great. The Beam to me feels like it hovers a bit better and is not as twitchy but it flips and rolls just as fast. Also there is very little to no slop at all anywhere in my Beam which may be why it seems to hover better. Its great little heli!!
