So I was browsing through the "usual" crash parts for my Stratus and was looking at the prices and I must say that they are simply ridiculous IMO. So I'm wondering, are their any other people/companies who make these parts for a much cheaper price? For price that MA charges, I'd expect to get a bundle of these parts. Surprisingly, the frames aren't as expensive as I thought they were and as a result, I may get a little more liberal with my Stratus however, these commonly damaged shafts are simply overpriced to say the least. I don't mind coughing up some $$$ for the not so common parts (head block, don't damage those too often, clutch assembly, etc), however the usual damaged items shouldn't be that overpriced IMO. What is everyone's opinion on this?

Lol, did you say MA? That price tag has always been associated with their products

Guess that is the cost of quality, since their stuff really does work well.

Yes I understand that, but still $20 for a mainshaft? $45 for a torque tube? $20 for a feathering shaft? I don't mind frames being expensive, or stuff like that, but shafts should be dirt cheap. I can machine these parts for less than that. However, I don't have the time for that.

Can you harden just half the shaft? The main shafts are this way. Also, as you indicated, there is a lot of machining and that ain't cheap. Try Ron's Heliproz South, all MA shafts are $17 or less, depending on which shaft.

you think MA is expensive look at JR pricing! It's just as much or more. With MA, you are getting good stuff. An American company trying to produce the best.

You do get what you pay for and all the parts are pretty much the cats pajamas. They are damn proud of those crown gears though. I've eaten nine in three years, it doesn't take long to add up.

I wouldn't say the MA parts are all that outta line when compared to the Aurora, Synergy or Vibe. It's only when you compare them to the 700N or the Raptor that they seem high. Just have to choose what floats your boat.

Honestly, if you don't crash a ton, the crash cost becomes a little less of an issue

Xcells....

If you cannot afford the crash costs of a particular heli then you really need to be flying one you can afford to buy parts for..

I find that if you are so worried about crashing then you will never really fly a heli to it's potential...you are better off selling the expensive machine and getting a cheapy to practice on if you are worried..

couldn't agree more. this is the reason I sold my Fury Expert to get a 600N. I've learned so much more(atlest regarding the 3d aspect of my flying) in a shorter period of time as a result. Funny thing is(knock on wood) is that I haven't crashed either the 600N or my Extreme since the switch but the mind set is totally different flying the 600N with the knowledge it isn't going to break the bank to fix. I'll try things alot sooner now in real life on the 600 after learning it on the sim. But I still love flying the Extreme..oh so smooth and you can't beat that at any price!

Crashing

I still do my fair share of crashing...but knock on wood it's usually my cheap a$$ logo 10's...

I use those as my "experimental" machines...those logo 10's have helped me to improve MORE than I would have ever predicted though..Learning at a fast rate really has A LOT to do with the mindset...if you are not worried about crashing you will learn much quicker....

you take more chances...simple as that..

Quantum.....

I got rid of my "expensive" helis some time ago (Xcells, Bergen's, etc.) basically for the same reason......cost of parts. Nobody will argue the fact that they are "top of the line" or "work very well", etc, but quite frankly, flying a bird like that will keep you from progressing because you'll always be worried about the cost of that crash that will eventually happen......

Just be thankful that you don't fly a Vigor or a Vibe.... Their main shafts are over $30, I believe........

I don't think MA parts are that bad. My Vario Acrobatic parts prices are insane. $45 for the MA preassembled carbon torque tube is a good price and the best part is they work.

The guy that started this thread has a 'donate' link in his gallery. Sure MA helis are expensive if you can't even afford to fly. I don't mean to be a prick but maybe you should sell your helis and buy a T-rex 450.
