Hey marc28, maybe, but the turbine location might cause problems with exhaust routing.

I was thinking more along the lines of what Mattjen is flying,
http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t438852p1/

With the setup that settle_helo mentioned might be the way to go,
http://www.jetcatusa.com/hp5.html

I'll probably be asking all kinds of questions when I get to that point.

George

Hi Rotor George, Awsome thread!

Would Zealous mechanics be a suitable choice? They keep the cabin clear, for scale detail....

Cheers for sharing your work!
Chris.

Hi,

I noticed on some of your pictures that you have a very nice set of drawings to work after. Can I ask where you got them from and if you have them in electronic from?

Thanks,

Tail Fin

Not too much to report other then almost finishing the tail fin.

I decided to add the anti collision light mounting detail now instead of later. It may be tough to glass this area but we'll see. I'll add the top fairing detail and leading/trailing edge detail after glassing this part. And of course the tail skid will be added later.

One thing I did do to the tail boom was sand the area where the fin actually mounts to at a 9 degree angle so the fin is angled out like the real one. Not sure if this will cause a trim problem during forward flight but I couldn't bear to see it mounted straight.

Well I'm back to more sanding..........

Not all of the vertical stabs are angled...

The 206 is straight, the 207 is angled, and the 407 is angled slightly more.

I have the 3 views on my computer at home, I can post them later...

Following this project with great interest BTW... nice work!

inacurate drawings

Sorry Rodan, but I wouldn't put too much trust in drawings. There's nothing like the real thing.

Here is an excerpt from Bell's technical documentation on the 206B.

Highlighted is an explanation as to why the vertical fin is angled or canted.

Here are two photos I took out at the hanger showing the vertical fin canted on the Jet Ranger.

George

Interesting... the 3 views I was looking at also came from Bell's technical specs off their website... So who's correct, Bell or Bell

Probably just running model changes?? I don't have any doc photos that are dead astern, but they look pretty straight... as you say, nothing like the real thing, but are those pics of a 206 or 207?

206L Progress

Hi Guys,

Shaping of the 206L is progressing, still alot of work left as you can see.

I'd like to get all three fuses shaped before moving onto glassing the plugs. I think it would just make things easier when all three are at the same stage of construction, especially when it comes time to detail them with rivets etc...

I also built and cast my own functional 1/4 scale hinges for both the crew doors and the baggage compartment door. The Baggage compartment hinges are the same on the 206B, 206L and 407 but the crew door hinges differ on all three. These are for the 206B.

Just waiting on my order for the tiny nut and bolts used to fasten them to the fuse.

Regards,
George

This has been very interesting, George. When it comes time to detail and glass the plugs, will you continue with the how to pictures? I've never seen this done before and as I said, it has been very interesting to see the steps involved in the making of a fuselage.

Shaping, shaping and more shaping

Hi Guys,

Now that the "basic" overall shaping is complete it's time to tweak them which has be taking some time. It's a slow go to get it right....still not there yet.

I've left the nose and windshield area untouched until I have my plug for the windshield finished and windsheild vacuum formed, that way I can shape and fit it perfectly.

Until next time.........
George

Hi Guys,
George, great Scott man, 1/4 scale? Can I go for a ride?
Jim, the Min Air fuse will be on it's way first thing Monday (earliest that post office will go now, they don't ship out on Saturdays anymore from Canada.) I was actually talking to george about some of the LR fittings he has made for sale, now you have to buy them! Cheers.

Hello George, I'm from Melbourne, FL. I have a Vario XLV that I'd be willing to drive over to you for inspection if you desire. I'm in Iraq right now but I should be available mid August. I actually have two, one a turb and the other with a 29cc gasser. Let me know as I'll be ready to see something other than this desert and anxious to drive faster than 30 mph!

The beatings will continue until morale improves...
