A lot of Imagination !!!!!!!

You have to be an artist to see something in that mass of foam.

This is a really interesting thread. Once the foam is shaped to your satisfaction, you you add detail like panel lines and rivets before you make the mold? Excellent work so far, I can't wait to see the next batch of photos.

I definitely see it.

I would love to see her during maiden flight as well as admiring her beauty.

Where will this happen?

Shaping

Hey Guys,

Shaping is coming along nicely, hope to be finished in a fews more days.

I had a delay with this build after I decided to re-build the mock-up. This time I glued layers of foam to the center spar then cut slots at the correct locations to receive the formers. It resulted in the straighter and easier to sand plug. The old way, trying to fit foam in every cavity with no voids was just not working for me. I also re-built the top cowling using the same technique.

Here's a progress photo from today.

@lrogers, yes, panel lines and rivets will be added to the plug so that the mold will have all the details.

Regards,
George

Jet Ranger Tailboom

Hi Guys,

Progress on the Jet Ranger tailboom is coming along well. Here's a few progress photos.

I still have a bit of shaping on the windshield area and back portion of the fuse.

Matt, thanks! I was beginning to think I was boring everyone with my photos of styrofoam.

I know it doesn't look like much right now, but once I coat the plug, prime it and start work on the details it'll come together and probably be more interesting.

George

It seems you are just about to do it

Very good work, and no, no one is boring here

Is there a life outside the sim?

¿Are you going to fill the cardboard "holes" with something or just begin with the coat process?

End of day

Hey guys,

Here's my end of day photo. It's almost there, just a bit of tweaking around the nose/windshield joint and touch ups here and there all over.

I'm going to build a nose section only with the bubbled windshield and chin windows to use as my plug for vacuum forming the windshield. I'll post pics of that when I'm at that stage.

BTW, the stack of foam in the background is the start of the Long Ranger.

Monster stabilizers!

Finished shaping the Jet Ranger's horizontal stabilizers....what monsters!

George

@ andres.c
Haven't made a firm decision on power as of yet (turbine would be sweet), probably will go with Vario mechs and their VR-22 head with 1120mm Reflex blades.
