I'm thinking of making a seperate 'casting' thread so as not to lose focus here on George's thread. Do you think such a thread would be welcome? You'll LOVE my horrific pictures hehehe!

That would be "great" but if you go video rather than photos then it would be "fantastic".

thanks for sharing.

This is so awesome, I am already starting to save up for this kit if/when George will sell them

Now one thing I am not sure if anyone asked, but what is the approximate weight of all this? Has a guestimate been done to see what kind of motor/mechanics would be needed to fly this puppy around nicely? From the looks of it, it is bordering a gasser type setup. Also what size would the blades be?

Hi guys,

Well I'm back home and am looking forward to moving full steam ahead on these fuselages. I'll be picking up supplies tomorrow so I should have some mold updates this weekend. Before I left I finished detailing and painting the last of the tail booms, all that is left now are the three fuselages.

@blt4ice, I'm not sure what the weight of the finished fuse will be at this point but I'll be vacuum bagging all the parts to keep the weight down. It should fly fine on the XLV platform (2500mm rotor) but as mentioned before, custom mechnics will be fabricated specifically for these fuselages.

@dmlong, I used regular 1/8" cardboard which came in 4'x8' sheets, nothing special about it.

Nice update Mario.

wow the turbine version for the XLV is really crazy looking. But it looks as this will be a top of the line(price) scale model. I was thinking 5k for the whole shabang, but I think I may have underestimated that...twice hehe.

plugs/parting boards

Hi guys,

I've decided to install all the plugs into the parting tables/boards then start the layup on everything instead of jumping back and forth. I think this is a more efficient way of doing things.

Here's a few pics of the current state of affairs.

The cowlings will have openings on the bottom and end so an additional piece of board was screwed into place. The tail booms will also have this installed at one end then I can apply the clay to close up the gaps.

Until the next update,
George

Hi Guys,

I now have all the plugs (except for the fuselages) installed and clayed into the parting boards. Coating everything with wax and PVA is next..........I'm back to work.

marc28,
The required licensing agreement with Bell Helicopter has already been executed, all that is left now is for the finished product to be shipped to them for approval.

For a top notch scale project you should figure in about 4 to 10k depending on your mechanics and power. Scale is more pricey than the pod and booms and don't forget this is a huge scale bird. So as always the bigger they are the more it will cost as well. I am going to try and go for the 10k version but that is due to the fact that I want it to be a gas turbine But of course the final price rests with George

will it not have to be a turbine to lift the weight?, would a gas engine have enough power?

I believe that gas will be fine.
