Hi Mario

"Does anyone have a few closeusp of the cable/wire cutters?"

This is just an example, I found it on "Google image"
when you are on the google image, you just type
jet ranger wire cutter, alot of other typs of wire cutters
will show, but I found 213000 differend pictures of jetrangers

I think that the only way I would be able to help out is to pre-order a kit if money gets tight for George's development

high build on the 206L

Hey Guys,

High build primer is going on the 206L cowling now that I have all the panel lines and cut out areas marked.

Until next time.

With such a perfect model I can't imagine putting anything but a turbine in it for a power plant. Is that basically the plan for it?

Parting Tables

Hey Guys,

I'm one step closer to making the molds. I've cut out all the parting tables for every piece.

The plug sits in these parting tables during the mold lay-up stage producing a nice straight parting seam.

The parts count for this build keeps growing.

Until next time,
George

That's what I'm talking about.Parting boards... I could not remember what they were called. So do you make the cutouts a tight fit or slightly larger than the piece to be parted??You use clay or puddy in there somewhere too no??Just plain particle board for the parting boards??
How is the fuse held in place while you build up the layers of cloth and matt. This I'm interested in seeing. Thanks for sharing.

@TVAILLANCOURT,
The hole is larger then the part by approx 1/8" all around. The gap is filled with clay, then at the time of lay-up everything is coated with PVA to prevent sticking.

@monkey nuts,
Just a long pencil held up against the plug. The distance from the edge of the pencil to the lead is just enough to create that 1/8" gap. Use a square to keep the pencil at a 90 degree angle to the table.

Regards,
George

I suspect George is a neatfreak/detailfreak. Despite all that sanding dust blasting all over the place, the shop looks quite clean! He even labelled the parting boards heh!

i'm sure that's not just for show either. Anyone driven to undertake such a project has it in their blood. Some of the stuff i deal with at work involves removing films at average rates smaller than the diameters of the atoms that comprise it. (Tenths of Angstroms/sec; Silicon is about 2.35 Angstroms in diameter) [5e22 atoms/cm3] Major PITA.

So... it's nice to come home, have a beer and watch someone derive so much pleasure from such a detailed project instead of having to persue it myself. Plus, people will get to fly it!!!!

Go George!

Now I know!

I have not looked at mold making for many years. It was sort of a black art with not much info availabe(no youtube then). Now that george has started in on this project I have discovered a group of 8 video's which document the whole process.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCivvXA2FVU

Now it is very clear what needs to be done.I must say it looks easy to do but there is a tone of prep and great attention to detail in order to pull nice pieces.Looking at george's work so far I think these fuselages will be outstanding. My hat is off to you George and can't wait to see the first pulled pieces.

407 Detail

Hey Guys,

I cast another detail item this time for the 407 fins. There are two of these inboard at the top and bottom of each end fin. It's the little things that make a difference right?

Yo George!

How about a 429 from Bell?

That 429 sure is interesting. When did they first hit the market? Looks like something to compete with the S-76's.

George, I'm home now and almost ready to fire up the XLTurbine. Once it checks out ok, I'd like to take a trip your way. I have the XLC as well but I have another XLV to assemble before I tackle the XLC. Besides, I'm still waiting on the turbine to get to the US distributer. You'll love the extruded aluminum main blades. They are 35 grams lighter than the carbon blades and have a thinner airfoil. Twice the price as well AND not allowed at AMA fields.

There is a flybarless conversion for the XLV VR-22 head. That'd look sweet on one of your peices of art. Maybe a consideration for the custom mechanics...

The beatings will continue until morale improves...
