Hi All,

Just wanted to run this by you. I was flying last weekend, and I got a rudder input on a flyby where she flew by somewhat sideways. I thought that was odd, so I brought her down close to me and checked everything out. Everything seemed OK so I went up to do some more passes to see if everything was OK.

Then, on another flyby I got a significant up elevator input. I didn't feel I had control, so I flipped throttle hold and brought her down where she was. The landing was a little rough and I lost a link and dented my tail boom, but that was the only damage.

Once on the ground, I had full control and couldn't notice anything unusual.

Given that I got two different inputs, I feel there must be something wrong with the receiver rather than a servo. The problem did not appear to be lockout.

My solution was to buy a new receiver. I'll be testing it out this weekend, but thought I would run it past you to see if you had any ideas.

Thanks!

I had similar issues on a N9 with a 9303 and AR7000. Started off just getting an unexpected control input every once in a blue moon, then started getting more and more regular. I replaced the receiver with a R921 and have had no more problems in that regard. Hopefully replacing your receiver will sort your issues out as well.

Hi All,

Well, as I mentioned, I replaced the receiver figuring that this would take care of the problem. I had a chance to test it out today for the first time, and she was rock solid with the new receiver.

That's my third receiver I've had in my 600N in two months. I kept having to rebind the first one so I lost confidence in it and replaced it with the second. The second one is the one that gave me rudder and elevator control inputs. Now the third one is in the 600N. If I keep having trouble, I'll probably switch to Futaba.

I had a lockout failure with an early model AR7000 last year that put my Swift in right on the nose. They replaced the receiver but I paid for the $300 crash. That's three receiver failures in about 600 flights. I think that's too many by today's standards.

Keep 'em flying.

Hi LJS,
What kind of power do you have going into your receiver? What device do you have between the battery and receiver? Stock Align stuff?
Thanks!

I've had 3 unexplained crashes since I went to Spectrum,(Dx7 with 7000rx) In my last crash I lost signal and my Raptor just corkscrewed it self into the ground. Upon inspection I notice the receiver wasn't working at all UNTIL I turned it off and back on again!! Then all servos worked normally. I thought it maybe low voltage dropout. Checked the voltage, well above 7 volts. Running 8.4 volts with regulator. My other 2 crashes were similar, using different rx's. Really unsettling. Thinking of going back to 72mz until more field testing is done. One thing of learned about JR and Futaba, they won't admit to anything until there is overwhelming evidence.

any problems with 2.4 ghz wireless video cameras?

What is the best system to use on a T Rex 600E for onboard video to watch on a receiver hooked up to a monitor? Can I just get a 2.4 Ghz cam or is a 900 Mhz or 1.2 Ghz safer? I use the DX7 and it may have interference.

I've heard the theories of why 2.4G downlinks will interfere with your Spektrum gear, but is it so in practice?

There's been plenty of field testing on the spektrum 2.4 stuff, and many issues have been addressed (like RX power), so I don't think there's anything wrong with the technology itself. You may have a bad unit, or something else is going on. Just last week, I had some bad glitching on my heli (DX7), and got locked out for a moment which I thought was a RX problem. Upon further inspection, it seems that 1 of the servo wires had lost it's sheilding, and was rubbing against the starter hex and causing all kinds of noise and interference.

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!

I haven't experienced any problems with lockouts since switching to 2.4ghz, but remain concerned as this is a weakness doesn't affect 72Mhz systems. Using a Voltmagic to monitor low voltage spikes is wise since heli's can experience voltage drops with multiple servos in continuous motion - especially with 3D flying. Adding the capacitor that Spectrum sells is also good insurance.

As a side note: here's a link to a Spektrum AR900 service bulletin that all heli's flyers will find interesting. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Article...?ArticleId=1709

I've been running my 12X vs. an R1221 for about six hours on the bench. It's never been in the air.

Last night, during an hour-long setup, I saw the swashplate move once. I wasn't even touching the radio or the heli at the time. The swash just moved (I'd guess just one servo) and then went right back to where it belongs. It was not a lockout, because that should hold.

It all happened so fast.

I frequently hear the servos change their sounds abruptly on the bench, but I never actually see them move like this time.

Referring to the spectrum link above I must say I'm supprised that spectrum team pilots fit the rx to the heli without vibration isolation

"Last night, during an hour-long setup, I saw the swashplate move once. I wasn't even touching the radio or the heli at the time."

Was the transmitter in a set-up menu? I don't have a 12X but both the DX7 and the X9303 have a "feature" whereby if they are in a set up screen, every 30-40 seconds or so (under a minute anyway) you can see the LEDS blink off on the receivers. If you have a logger connected to the receiver it will log 4-5 frame losses at that point, but no fades. In the top level screen, this does not happen.

I think I know why this happens but no matter, it does. I think I have seen a servo "twitch" slightly once when working on the bench but this was long before I figured out what was going on.

If you have the patience and a data logger, you might want to repeat the test. I have not tested every screen (yeah right) and it may need you to have made a data change for it to happen (theory)but give it a try.
