I know there is a lot of contention on how to set this up, but I thought I would reopen the debate as I can't seem to get my tail dialed in. It seems to go from mushy with a slight drift to wagging with no gain in between, i.e. one gain setting it is mushy and drifts a bit, raise gain one point and it starts wagging. I am also having some low RPM vibrations (http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t436348p1/), so that also may be/probably is the cause of it, but I'd still like to have all my electronics set up correctly.

The Align 35x esc puts out 6v. The s9257 is only rated at 4.8v. How is everyone handling this?

  1. No regulator -- just running the s9257 at 6v
  2. Regulator between 401 and s9257
  3. Regulator between 401 and Rx

A,B or C

Those are all great options. Which ever works best for your setup.

Try setting up your 401 in rate mode first with no drift. This can better help dial in your tail.

Okay, I have to butt in here. Neither of your responses answer the question! The question was, "How is everyone handling this?", which means to ask, "Do YOU use a regulator in your TRex 450 with a 35X, a GY401 and a S9257?"

In another thread, NMRS has been trying to work out tail rotor issues, and he is using a regulator between his 401 and the 9257. My contention is that a regulator is not necessary or desireable with this setup, and might in fact be causing some of the problems. So we were wondering whether anyone else is using a regulator, and, if so, why? The 35X limits the output voltage to 6 volts, which the 401 and 9257 should be able to handle making a regulator unnecessary. Anyone chime in - do you use a regulator on a 450?

step down between the 401 and 9257. align step down is only 3.99 and won't get much performance running the 9257 on 6V (its rated for 4.8). why risk burning the 50$ 9257s?
