I had my tail working good until I had a crash when my tail prop broke mid flight.
I fixed everything that was broken and for some reason decided to mess with my esc and I think I messed up the programming in it. I have switched now from a TB9 to the Castle Creations Phoenix 10.
What I have been getting is very very bad tail wag if you could call it that. When I put any kind of input to change heading the tail just starts to bounce back and forth getting worse and worse each time like 90-180 degrees rotation. The tail seems to react late and then over corrects sending it flying the other directions. Each oscillation getting farther and father off center.
This is the current set up for the tail. Feigao 1208436L Castle Creations Phoenix 10 G90 DX7
I set up the esc as follows. 1)Cutoff Voltage - 4V(I don't want it to ever cut off on me) 2)Current Limmiting - Insensitive(recommended heli setting) 3)Brake Type - Brake Disabled 4)Throttle Type - Auto Calibrating 5)Electronic Timing Advance - Standard 6)Low Voltage Cutoff Type - Soft 7)Soft Start - Fast Start
I have tried many gain settings on the gyro but whatever I choose I get the same problem. I tried setting it to digital and standard but to no avail. I have made sure there is no brake and that the esc responds to inputs as fast as possible.
Do you guys have any input? Could my g90 be messed up from too many impacts(it has always been a let down from the start)? Should I run to the store and pick up a GY401 or would that be a waste of time? I have the extra wire on my gyro running in to the gear channel could it somehow be setting a higher gain that overrides my pot settings?
It has been a few weeks and I really want to fly again.
Make sure: - only 1 BEC going to the receiver - gyro is well secured to the heli (not shaking)
BTW: the CastleLink software is a great addition to the CC ESCs...

Make sure the tail boom is snug, Mine was damaged in a crash once, causing it to flex and overcompensate like yours is doing.

I have just the bec from my main esc. I pulled the middle plug on the lead between my tail esc and gyro.
My gyro is in the recommended spot mounted on foam double sided tape. I tried with and without a strap to hold it down.

Well I picked up a gy401 and installed it. Annoyingly my problems still persisted. I spent a good 1/2 day playing around and I finally tracked down my problem. It was my lack of understanding on how to properly program the remote gain on my dx7.
When I first got my dx7 I just copied settings from here and had no idea what I was doing. It turns out I had my gear set to +100 -100 so my gain was at 100%. I just finished dropping it down to like +30 -30 and all of my tail wag is gone. Can't wait to fly tomorrow.
I now have an extra gyro but I will just throw my g90 back on my blade when I pick up a trex later this summer.
