Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > A trick to get the red dampeners in

I've been doing a little reading around this forum, and noticed a lot of people cursing about getting the red dampeners in. Well a buddy of mine just gave me a set (thanks Neil!), and said to try a C-clamp. Didn't work for me. Tried the hammer, but was too worried about damaging something to really reef on it. Didn't work.

What did though is this:

Install the dampeners into the head block.
put a nut on one side of the feathering shaft.
use a socket to twist as you push like hell to get the buggar through.

Went in pretty easy for me doing that. Just thought I'd share, and hopefully save somebody a little time and swearing

Hammer on toy most often = bad! good call not to go that way, some may disagree.
If c-clamp was a no go, did I mention grease and lots of it,make sure they are square and turn slowly? Did you turn clockwise? Hehe....
- ugh!

The procedure that has worked for me is to install the dampers in the head block dry, by hand. Then with silicone grease, slide the feathering shaft into the dampers, and install the blade grips. Works every time with no hastles. I do use a socket on a screw driver type handle to push the feathering shaft thru the dampers, however.

I ALWAYS use the socket wrench with the feathering shaft. It's the only way I could get it in...

I've been doing it this way for years, though, I'll go a step further and install one complete blade grip assembly and then the nut. It eliminates the hassle of trying to remove the nut again to install the blade grip after you've already installed the feathering shaft.

Al Austria: Good idea, it was a pain to get the nut off after. Hadn't thought of that. Every time I've read about them, people are using hammers, bruising their hands, messing with c-clamps, swearing, and generally having a lousy time of it.

Here I thought I had an original idea. Ahh well, if this saves one poor buggar all the a fore mentioned headache, this post is worth it's weight in gold... Err.. which I suppose is technically nothing. Well you get the point.
