I have a Hobby-Lobby HLFE9713 on the way. Should be here early this week. The tech guy at Hobby-Lobby didn't know if it would work in my Vario 8300, but suggested I buy it anyway - if it didn't work, send it back for a full refund (as long as it is in original condition). My concern is that the motor fits between the sideframes in front of the engine and may take up the same space as the servo pushrods in the same ganeral area. I modified my 4 servo CCPM to 3 servo, 120 deg CCPM arrangement. I may be able to make further adjustments to fit in the starter in if necessary. My other concern is the diameter of the motor vs. the space between the sideframes. I believe most of the starter kits are intended to be used with the Vario frameset (typically seen in purple) that have direct servo links below the swashplate. I don't know what the model number is. That servo arrangement would not have any linkage conflicts in the starter motor area. I would presume that the sideframe spacing would be the same as mine though.

I want to get the starter for my Vario as it will become my scale show helicopter.

I'll let you know how the starter works out and maybe post a few pics.

Well it got here today. Won't work. As far as I can tell, Hobby-Lobby's starters won't work with the Zenoah G230RC engine. Unfortunate since the build quality is exceptional and the price is only $159. It apparently only works with the airplane engine ZG-23 SL. The starter motor would occupy the same space as the main gear, and the adapter plates won't work either.

This product comes from Germany - FEMA Elektro-Bordanlasser

The hunt continues for a reasonably priced starter...

Just go a message from FEMA(etc.) on a new starter that will fit the Zenoah G230RC as follows...
------------------------------
For the Zenoah G-230RC you need to use the On board starter with the model number 9400.

At the moment we are preparing the instruction manual for this starter in English, therefore we can supply this starter latest at the 01.06.03. The price of the starter will be 285,- EURO.

best regards

Ewald Böhler

Price is still steep though, unless I used the wrong conversion - about $316 US - ouch!

Vario electric starter

I got mine from Vario canada as well, fits in between the front side rails, and the servo rods do clear it. Works fine for me. I paid 295.00 with the battery and the starter switch which I connect to channel 9 on my futaba Rx, (9CAP) Tx I then assigned channel nine to switch H which is spring loaded, once it's fired up let go of the switch. I use mine in a big airwolf, anyone wo has constantly had to remove the top front canopy and reach in for the pull start will find this addition the best money they ever spent. Battery is 1850mah NIMH good for 40-45 starts.
