Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > My Aurora Link sizing method

Hello to all Aurora builders,
I decided to try a different method to size all my Aurora links, this is what I did with great results. I made up all the rods with links to sizes required in directions.

I put my Maverik ball link sizer(from Heli Proz)vertically into my vice. I then adjusted my sizer to be just a little larger than the stock Aurora ball, so the plastic link fit tight over the sizer. I then heat it with my Monekote heat gun, while twisting it back and forth, until the link feels like a nice fit. Let it cool slightly as you continue to move the link on the sizer,(you can speed the cooling with a paper towel wet with isopropyl alcohol) then remove from the tool and do the other link.

I found my links to fit real nice after this, with a bit of drag to wear in. The nice thing is you can control the fit without reaming. If you happen to make the fit too loose, just place the link onto an Aurora steel ball, reheat with a heat gun, and it will resize itself to that ball. You'll be back into business!

What I do is I have a old ball and I chuck it up in a drill. Then I put the link on it and spin the ball at high speed while holding the ball link steady for a about 5 to 10 seconds and then check. Kinda the same principle, the heat from friction softens the ball link up a bit and allows it to stretch a tad. Been working great for years for me and doesn't remove any material from the ball link.

F.Y.I., Augusto told me when I picked up my Aurora not to size the links. He said to use ball link pliars for on/off operation but DO NOT SIZE THEM!

PM him and I am sure he will confirm. I am surprised that he has not posted already on this topic.

I wonder if the ball links warm up in flight anyway? - I've neve checked this.

Everything in a 90 sized rotor head is cycling back and forth at over 30 times a second...

Ghostrider,
Augusto doesn't want you to use the conventional method of using a reaming tool...the new plastic links are made out of a plastic that can be heated(he explains on the Avant site, Bic lighter for heat). I just tried a heat gun, and it worked for me.*** All the latest building information is on the Avant RC site, that's were you want to post to get answers to your questions!

QuoteO NOT size the links!

I will make a post explaining the technology and materials used on this links tomorrow. Sizing them would ruin the technology.

The technique to make them lose is called Blue-Flaming.
You take a lighter and heat up the link's ring around the ball using the blue area of the flame for 3 to 4 seconds until it losens. It's a pretty cool technique and the plastic used is designed for that technique. I'll explain it all tomorrow you'll find it pretty interesting.
That's all you need to do.

Augusto.

Maybe it shouldn't be called 'link sizing', but rather 'link fitting', will that be more pc? Neither method me or Razz gave removes any material from the ball links. I've been using my method to 'link fit' since '98 with no probs.
