Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > Muscle Pipe 5 on Raven = melting fuel tank?

As the title says: I just put a muscle pipe 5 on my Raven 50. It mounts so close to the fuel tank that it is starting to melt it! It doesn't touch the tank but it is very close. There is a spot on the tank that i think might wear through.

Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

you can buy the tank for the Century Bell 47 (see link),, or buy a after market tank and mount it like the Bell's is,, I know Beavis1 (Chris) did that on his H-Pro,,

look for the Bell's tank here,,,

I'd suggest a exhaust extension. Would give you a bit more of clearance.

get some aluminium tape (used for duct work), and stick a piece to the area of the tank effected. to make a heat shield as mentioned. polishing it up may also increase its effectivness.

Mikefoy,, click on the link, look down to the right, Century makes an exhaust extension,,,,, now, only if Century sells it separate from the muffler, you will have to call to find out..

I do know someone makes a long exhaust extension for the OS 46 plane engine, it is about 10 inches long, it is made to be cut to the length you need,, they have them at my local hobby shop,, if you can't find order on I could buy it here and send it to you, I could also cut it and mill the cut end flat for you..

Yep, OS does make a exhaust extension, if that is what you want to do. Otherwise, many of the suggestions regarding covering the tank with deflective tape are good ideas.

I covered the tank with a section of doubled over pop can and some silicone heat resistant tape. It seems to help, but i would really feel better with an extension. I will call Century tomorrow and see if they will sell me just an extension. I dont know if they will or not though.

If i cant get it through century, I may take you up on your offer Jim. Thanks!

I called Century and talked to Joe, It looks like they can not sell it separately from the muffler kit.

I had a guy from Heliproz recommend a couple spacers like this:
http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=804350

The only problem is the bottom bolt does not have much space inbetween it and the lower part of the frame. sorry for the crappy camera phone pics, but i think i can get my problem across

yes, that's true about the frame (I didn't think about that),, so spending all that money on that spacer I was talking about just to get 1/16 spacer would not be worth it, maybe you could find an old muffler and cut the flange off then have someone mill the flange flat for you..

Anybody I saw that had that problem just went with the heat shield idea 2 layers of metal tape with an air pocket in between works well
or My favourite the pepsi can folded over and bolted to the frame.

or use a differant pipe
