after all the hell I went through to get my reflex sim to work on my vista pc now I just got the latest nvidia driver for my new 8800gtx card and my pc crashes when I try to use the sim .Im thinking its divine intervention keeping me from learning to fly my heli to maybe keep me from hurting myself.

If anyone can help me figure this out

the newest nvidia driver makes my reflex freeze up with black screen. as for my settings on the video display control panel I didnt do much but I did change a setting to let it manage my 3d applications .Thats all I did. Do you think i need to turn off something like v-sync or something? Thanks Pals

Is this a new video card you put in? Or did you just update the driver? Can you just revert to the previous driver that you had working (assuming you have had reflex working with this card before)? Does your PC crash as soon as reflex loads or just at some point while its running? Maybe try and disable that setting that lets the driver manage your 3D applications. See if that lets reflex work. If you get reflex working, check to make sure it is running at the same resolution as your normal desktop. Disable everything you can in reflex -- set everything to low detail/quality, turn off everything you can, etc. Then one by one enable them until you find the one that is making it crash and just not use that setting. If you still can't get it to work, try different older driver versions until you hopefully find one that works.

How can I disable things if it crashes seconds after it loads? I guess I could go back to the old driver but I hate to do that.

You could edit the setting files in the following directory

C:\Program Files\PhoenixRC\resources\defaultSettings\Settings

The file name is: defaultOptions.sim

You can open the file with notepad and turn some of the features off

The file content looks like this:

options = {}

--###########################
--simEngine Options

options.default_simulationSpeed = 100
options.default_windowPosition_x = 0
options.default_windowPosition_y = 0
options.default_windowSize_x = 1024
options.default_windowSize_y = 768
options.default_windowState = 1
options.default_screenResolution_x = 1024
options.default_screenResolution_y = 768
options.default_screenRefresh = 60
options.default_fullscreen = 0
options.default_renderProfiler = 0
options.default_renderFrameCounter = 0
options.default_vsync = 1
options.default_antialiasing = 0
options.default_glows = 1
options.default_sunGlow = 0
options.default_reflections = 1
options.default_waterEffects = 1
options.default_shadowQuality = "High"
options.default_particleQuality = "High"
options.default_masterVolume = 100
options.default_lightingVersion = 2
options.multiplayer_clientPort = 9002
options.multiplayer_serverPort = 9003
options.default_forceNoMipmaps = 0
options.default_soundLibrary = "OpenAL"
....
...
------------------------------------------------

This is the first part of the setting file. It is the part for the screen features.

To turn some of the features off, you only have to change the value from 1 to 0

I hope this help
