e-Electric General Discussion > choosing an electric w/ collective pitch

I have flown Gas Helis over the years. Started w/ a Shuttle in 1993.
I've had a Kyosho 30, Excel 60 and now still have a Raptor 30 from a few years back. I have the Raptor setup for 3D and do flip flops and inverted w/ it so I can get my bigger jollies w/ that guy. Couple years ago I got a Hummingbird FP. It was fun to fly in the garage or basement but this is darn crummy in forward flight. I'm looking for a new electric. Nothing fancy but I do want to do loops, stall turns and not have it so squirrly in forward flight as the fixed pitch humming bird which is totally out of control when the head speed drops. I'm looking for something RTF w/ a radio for $200-$300. Is there anything out there worth buying or should I drop the idea?

My local hobby shop carries some eflite parts but not that much.

This will not be my main heli, just something to fly in the morning when the wind is nearly nill.

I had seen the adds for the AXE CPv3 but later was looking at the Esky belt CP.

Thx for any advice

i would drop the idea... blade 400 is closest ur gonna get at 400 bucks but alot of people say those need alot of upgrades... and even if it doesnt u still need a couple more batteries... and if ur gonna buy a axe and try to do flips and stall turns you might as well throw ur money away because those are crap

I agree with Michael. The B400 is the closest in your price range.

But with that said, I've heard many decent things about the King II...I have a barebones kit on order as we speak. Not great, but you can drop in your own electronics/motor with the barebones kit.

ive had great luck with my b400. the only thing i needed to change was the swash and tail servo. jr sm22 servos work great, drop right in and are cheap

I've had good luck with my b400 as well and I really like it. There's servo issues and that's pretty much it. Spektrum Dsp75's work for me and they're not too spendy. You're gonna have to buy more batteries with any electric so that's kind of a moot point by micheal. If you already have a good tx you could pick up a b400 on ebay for about $150 new without electronics (esc and motor are usually included). If you're tx lacking I'd reccomend the b400 kit because you get the dx6i which as far as I'm concerned is about as kicka$$ of an entry level fully featured tx that you can get and you can keep using it with your other heli's.

with 2 ears and 1 mouth you should listen twice as much as you talk

I love my blade 400 upgraded the servos to mg65s and put a good gyro and tail servo otherwise stock flies good 3d, its no trex 450 but close and cheep to repair when I dumb thumb. I have 5 other helis and always practice new moves on the 400 first.

Good Luck

I will toss in another King2 recommendation. The bare bones kit is only $80 shipped and with the $20 ESky 3900 motor, $25 30A ESC, 4 $14 Futaba s3114 servos, the $45 EKsy HH gyro and an RX for your radio (if it supports 120* CCPM), it is very decent flying bird for not a lot of money. I run 2100 3s 18C packs and they run about 11min with a near wide open th.curve. That said you better be on your toes as these are super fast birds.

that's $226.00 plus receiver, battery , charger and transmitter as much or more than 400.

blade 400 comes RTF with everything and its 2.4 DX-6I

Just thought I would instigate the Master Instigator

Correct me if I am wrong, but the KingII is a little smaller than the b400, which may be nice when the weather is nasty and you want to play a little in the garage.

The king runs 275mm blades vs 315 on the B400. And it weighs much less.

Oh don't get me started there TaleGunner!

Actually the King will be more if you buy good stuff and cheaper if you buy the stuff that comes with the B400. The battery, charger and servos that come with the B400 are not that great and will likely be replaced anyhow but you will still have to buy them if you go the B400 route. And who says you can't just go buy a DX6i for $179 if you want? That leaves $100 for the charger and battery, and that is about the price of the EFlight 1.8A charger + an 1800 EFlite battery. (Assuming you spend $500 on the B400 at a LHS) Now if you decide you want a nicer charger like a CellPro 4s, you can take that $100 and put it towards that and a bigger and nicer battery for only $25 more then the B400 stuff. I think that would be a good trade, don't you.

But who cares right? Just buy the heli that you like. Both of these are fine and will work for your needs. You just have to decide which fits you and your needs better.

Another option but also more expensive is the new Cypher 3D. They go for around $230.0 with speedcontrol and motor. You will have to provide all other elecronics.
This heli needs no upgrades! It comes with a metal headblock, metal/plastic swash and solid tail design.
Mine flies great even in light wind and has a nice feel in ff flight.

I would recomend a used Trex 450 or a Mini titan! otherwise go for the B400! all 3 of these will keep you happy for a long time.

the biggest issue will be a radio system, but this will be kept for some time, or maybe you have something that may work, you will want something with 5pt curves which could go back to a radio from the mid 90's and can be had cheap,
