Is it possible to just buy the benzin and swap out the frames to an aerobatic or do I need more stuff? Any one got a benzin airframe they want to part with so I can experiment with it? Every thing listed is rtf in the classifieds.

The benzin is 10mm main shaft and the aerobatic is 12. I suppose you could use all the 10mm stuff, but what is the point of the swap?

I didnt know that! The whole question of the frames comes to me for a need to make a camera mount for AP work. I was hoping to go to ccpm on the trainer and hang a camera off the nose. Isnt the aerobatic the same "disk" diameter as the benzin? I see two aerobatic machines on the vario site with two diffrent diameters. How tdo you get a benzin to swing 810s or larger?

re benzine trainer vrs acrobatic.

Decision is based purely on weight. It would be safer to run 12mm mast and metal blade grips if running 800 - 850 mm blades with more than 20 lbs. Lift limitation is based on density alititude and engine hp. Best to run a modified 260 gas or a turbine. If no violent manouver you can still run 800mm blades on a benzine with a tweeked gas engine. Still recommend metal blade grips.

you also might want to look at Bergen EB.

also suggest staying with 4 servo on vario rather than 3/120 setup for redundacy and higher loads.

The 8304 kit is the Aerobatic with 800mm main blades and 12mm shaft, 25mm tail boom as well. You can use the G230 or 260 in the machine.

That might be the way to go, but the price of the vario is pretty high. The bergen eb is around 1200 for the kit, and the vario is 1830. I would rather have the vario because of the support and longevity but it is out of my price range. I also like the vario design with the complete engine bolting into place rather than a stripped case. I have saved $900 so far, and the future isnt to bright. Good points by the way about the 12mm shaft and the lifting ability. What kind of serious airframe is there for $900? I have owned so many birds that are money pits because after a couple of seasons they are just worn out. I fly ALOT when I can. It keeps me out of trouble.

following this thread and trying to figure out what peeps are saying?
despite one machine haveing 10mm main shaft and the other 12mm main shaft are the out side dimenisons of the bearing blocks and frame spacers for both machines the same regardles of the main shaft diameter? if so then it is possible to swap frames the only thing you would need to change is the belt lenght or gear ratio depending on what you need to achieve?

The bearing blocks are the same, its the bearings.
The motor is also moved up front for better CG, and uses a longer belt from the motor to the rear pulley.
