Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Zimmerman Mufflers, are they actually quieter?

Dear all,

I'm planning to put my R50 with OS Hyper, MP2 and Carb Smart into a TT MD530 scale fuse.

I'm not that bothered about all out power and I want to try to keep the noise down so I'm thinking of swapping out the MP2 for a Zimmerman muffler.

I've heard that engine tuning can be an issue with Zimmerman mufflers, but would the carb smart take care of that?

Is the noise difference noticable between the MP2 and a Zimmerman?

I'm not a club member so I don't have much experience of the sound level of other mufflers as I usually fly along.

Forgive me if this has been covered in the past but the RR search is currently disabled.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Cheers, Ian.

Anyone got a number for Heli-widows, my wife wants to join!!

The large volume Zimmerman is a nice sounding pipe, I say nice as I have never done any actual noise testing with a meter, but the perceived noise at higher revs seems greater with a MP. I have run the zimmerman and at normal head speeds this is a quiet sounding muffler, and there are no tuning issues with it. Tuning issues are usually down to the operator not the pipe.

The heli really sings with the MP and at 2000 revs on the head is quite a sound. I would try your pipe as it is and at the head speed you want to use, and you could be ok if you keep the headspeed respectable, I find after years of noise testing motors if you think it is noisy it usually is.

Good luck

Thanks for the responces chaps.

I think I'll try the Zimmerman anyway, before putting it into the fuse and compare for myself. If the difference is not so big then I'll sell Zimmerman, and keep with the MP2 in case I need the power in the future.

I ordered one from Europe. Two others from local.

All of them are #2691L. Work like champ for OS91 Cspec, SZ.

I have one worked for 4 years in my Sylphide.
