Blades, Night Flying and Painting > Painting question - pre-reducing

I've noticed that the paint I'm using (Auto Air Colors) recommends that you not use the paint more than 24 hours after mixing it with flash reducer.

I've also seen airbrushing sites saying they were "against pre-reducing" - ie. shipping paint that has been pre-reduced.

Which is fine... it's easy to follow the directions... But for the curious, what's the problem with mixing it with reducer days/weeks before using the paint? To the ignorant, like me, there shouldn't be a problem as long as the paint hasn't cured...

I believe it may be the fact that the reducer will eventually start to deteriorate the paint in concentration like that. When you spray it on, the reducer is mainly used to thin it out so the paint doesn't gum up in the gun. When it is sprayed on with a fine mist and a light coat the reducer is allowed to evaporate leaving only the paint, whereas in the can mixed up it can't. Personally, I don't use reducer unless absolutely necessary and I've never really found it necessary if using the right equipment and proper needles.

Given that my airbrush is an Aztek 430 - a decent hobbyist grade airbrush, but it's not in the same league as a pro brush like an Iwata,

I've tried painting without flash reducer in this airbrush - Auto Air colors is simply too thick for this airbrush, regardless of nozzle used - it simply clogs the thing. Flash reducer resolves this issue quite nicely.

The end result is that I end up 'wasting' about 2 oz. of paint today - which is probably less than auto body shops do on a single shoot...
