Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Need a part or a suitable sub for an OLD X-Cell 50

A few days ago I posted on the main discussion that an older gent at the local field had given me an early model X-Cell 50 that he had disassembled/stored and was going to trash. I put it together to see if all the major parts were there. The only thing that it is missing is the starter cone that goes on the engine out put shaft. The shaft has OD of 6mm or .236". If anybody has a spare, knows where there is a source for these, or a mod/sub that can be obtained, I would appreciate it. Thanks all.

I may have one but I will need to check my parts bin.

PM me your address so that should I locate it I can send it out to you. That's the original starter cone, correct?

You can put any start system on top of that shaft (hex, cone), why not just use the MA one way starter?

Starter stuff

KC, I have a one way hex starter for my Raven. Does that mean that I can just get some type of adapter for that?

Hex Adapter

The one off the TT Raptor works if you put a small flat on the shaft, also the Hirobo Evo adapter.

Starter cone

Thanks for all the replies. But there is one, maybe two on the way.

I got one of those original cone starts here too for the X-Cells if you need it but like most others I use the 5mm hex cup off the Raptor. I do not miss the days of having the rubber insert slipping off the start cone due to oil etc.

I believe Jerc is just trying to keep the Old XCell as stock as possible.

Thanks Old Skool

Thanks for another offer. I think I am set up though. I know we are all (the vast majority of us) helpful and kind. But I can't believe the number of folks willing to help out with hard to find parts! That is deffinately one aspect of this hobby that is very endearing. Thanks all!

What about this...

Just a thought, what do you guys think, this is my plan:
Take an old-type starter cone. Turn it down in a lathe so that the head of a 6mm allen bolt( cap screw) will just fit inside. Cut down allen bolt to shorten it up. Thread inside of start adaptor, then thread in allen bolt and fix with red (permanent _ loctite) because the starter will inherently try to back it out.
Since I have a ready supply of 6mm allen bolts, old starter cones, and a lathe should be simple enough, right?
I'll post pics as I do it.
Advantages- can now use a hex adaptor to start, but could still use a cone-type if needed. Also can swap out hex head bolt if it wears out (with lots of heat of course).
Just an idea at this point..

Pretty pimp! Nice idea, the ability to use either the cone or the hex.
