Computer Flight Simulators > G3.5 new problem

Hi Guys

I have had G3.5 working fine on my laptop fine for about 1 1/2 years.
It is a Duo core 2,0 Ghz Intel processor with 1Gb ram and a ATI x1800 mobility 256mb graphics card.

A few days ago lines started appearing from the heli. Like from the main shaft straight up or from a skid diagonally down. It would still fly fine with the lines following the motion of the heli. It would fly fine for some time then freeze or the screen would go black. Restarting the computer and things would be fine.

I downloaded Windows XP sp3, and all the windows updates. Then updated the graphics card drivers and re-installed the G3.5 completely. All with no luck.....

This is the only 'game' on my laptop. All normal laptop functions work fine.

Any help please

Regards
Paul

Sounds like your laptop might be overheating.

As Drunk Monk said it sounds like your card is overheating. Is your laptop still under warranty ?

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies. I have been away for a while.

Yes the screen does look like the lines on your links.

Yes i think my laptop is overheating.

I took the back of the laptop off and blew all the dust and fluff out of the fan and radiator/heatsink fins. there was alot....

Will check out the sim and report back.

I get about 90fps while flying around. Is there a way to get the graphics card to slow down? would this make it work less and remain cooler?

The thing is it used to work perfectly. I could fly about for hours...

Thanks guys

Hi nemo_uk

I downloaded the AtiTool and set the sliders at 1/2 way...like in the screanshot and have just had 10min fun with G3.5....looks like the problem is solved. Will 'play' again tonight and report back.

Thanks
Paul

cool, glad you got it sorted, blowing all dust out of the fan would have helped a great deal.

Hi guys

The dust/fluff removal made the machine run cooler, but was still crashing with G3.5....I never measured the temp, just my hand on the machine...ie super scientific....

With the ATi tool it has dropped to 60fps and G3.5 works like a champ.

I still don't understand why it used to run at +-100fps with no problems, but who cares....

Thanks guys

Regards
Paul
