What did you mean BTS by the larger spindal will work with the big block conversion?

The larger should be a lot stronger and you could possibly use this head with engines larger than a 50.

I found that you have to have a washout unit with the same dimensions at the stock raptor or the head phase timing will not be correct. Using T600 washout arms may or may not work.

Jesus bolt hole

BTS,

You suggest that the Jesus bolt hole needs to be redrilled at 3mm from the top of the head. Is that exact? The bottom hole is 4.25 mm away 3mm is way close to the end of the shaft. Is the 3 mm to the top of the new hole or to the center?

What you want is the bottom of the Srimok head to be in the same location as the bottom of the stock head. That comes out somewhere in-between the old hole and the end of the shaft. If you make the hold on the top of the shaft about the same distance as the hole on the bottom that would probably be close enough.

I just measured the distance from the bottom of both heads to the bolt hold and moved the new hole up to make up the difference. This makes the top of the shaft slightly below the flybar seesaw hold in the Srimok head.

You should take some assembly photos and post them. I forgot to photograph before I installed the head.

BTS,

Did you use the stock raptor flybar? If so did you grind any flat spots?

I am going to start a build thread. I have taken photos of my progress so far.

I think that most any flybar will work. I just used the stock Raptor flybar as is. You could make new flats if you like but I did not. If you do grind new flats be aware that they are not at 180 degrees to each other.

The flybar arms have some play in the seesaw flybar holder. How do you adjust them? Do you just try to center them in the opening? How did you set the angle of the arms? I see they need to be 90deg to the side of the head.

Shrimok Head Build

I am going to post some photos of my Shrimok Head build. I am taking my own sweet time on this for several reasons!

First some photos of the project laid out ready for assembly. I did have a rather hard crash right before my new head purchase so my chassis is a little naked. The new receiver is just replacing the old one that is not damaged. I am converting my fleet to 2.4ghz slowly. My Titan already had the 2.4 ghz receiver I just thought I would give it to a sacrificial plane since it did go through a crash. The servo tray was broken in three places but no electronics damage.....that I know of yet from bench testing.

The head packaged and unpackaged

Drilling the main shaft

Here is a shot of the main shaft being drilled. I used a 1/8" cobalt bit and a shaft centering drilling tool bought at harbor frieght. There is a link in a previous post. It drilled like butter! I threw in a shot of the builder also.

On the flybar arms you want the control ball to be in the center of the head. Make sure it is free throughout the entire range. At full cyclic the control rod ends will almost tough the grip on top and the side of the head on the bottom. If the gap in the top and bottom are not about the same you don’t have the flybar angle correct.

Drilling?

I just ordered the new Kasama head for my Raptor 90. Why are you guys talking about drilling mainshafts and grinding flats on the flybars? Are these modifications all necessary to get this head to work? I hope not?!

Kasama makes a special version of the head for the Raptor 90. The 50 size head is sort of a universal design so it requires come changes to get it to fit some helicopters like the Raptor 50.

With your Raptor 90 head you just bolt it on and go fly.

fly bar control

I already asked this question but I didn't understand the answer so I am going to ask it again with some graphics.

1. The fly bar control arm can move back and forth in the direction of my red arrows within the seesaw. Should I center the arms in the space?

2. How do you set the angle of the control arms?

I am glad you have built this ahead of me BTS! Thanks for the help.

Dampers

Here is a shot of the o-ring dampers and a shot of the begining of the head assembly.

I looked at the T-rex manual and this head is quite a bit different than the t-rex head!

See my R90 post.
The grub screws should be 180 apart, and that gives you the 84 degree droop. If you run a quality driver like a Thorpe on each side, and visually align the drivers to a dead straight line, your arms will be aligned

Raptor 90 Needs Jesus Bolt to be Bigger

I had to drill out and tap the Raptor 90 jesus bolt holes, because Kasama screwed up and put a 3mm jesus bolt hole in their head in a 4mm mainshaft Raptor 90 thats not going to work. Not too happy that I had to do that, but at least I feel much safer now with that in there. I'm going to call Kasama on Monday and ask them why they chose to put too small of a jesus bolt in their new Raptor 90 head.
